Good afternoon!

As we head into the weekend, I want to take a moment to share an important update with you. Over the past year, there has understandably been some uncertainty regarding the future of the funeral home. From the beginning, we promised to remain transparent throughout this process, and I am pleased to reassure you that Harkins will continue serving the community as a locally owned and operated funeral home.

Allow me to introduce myself ~ my name is Katharine Wagner-Elfner, and I am a licensed funeral director. My husband, Nathan, and I are partners at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Red Lion, (Formerly Burg Funeral Home) which we purchased on May 16, 2023. What was once a funeral home in need of a lot of TLC when we acquired it in May 2023 has since been transformed into a thriving, welcoming space that proudly serves our local community. Nathan and I are actively involved with local organizations and truly love the families we serve.

Last year, Patti and Jeff shared their desire to entrust us with the future of the Harkins Funeral Home. While things did not come together at that time, Nathan and I remained confident that when the timing was right, everything would fall into place.

While we are excited about this new chapter, it is also deeply bittersweet. Over the years, I became close with Patti, and her passing has left a lasting impact. Many of you have reached out with questions about the Gone Too Soon Program, and I want to assure you that it remains close to my heart, because it was so meaningful to Patti. Our commitment is to carry that program forward and continue honoring the legacy she helped build at this funeral home.

One moment that truly moved me happened just a few weeks ago. As I was leaving the funeral home for the day, I saw children playing football on the front lawn. It brought tears to my eyes. That simple, joyful scene reminded me of what this place is really about: life, community, and love. I know Patti would have loved it too.

We are eager to share that settlement will officially take place this coming Thursday, August 28. In the weeks ahead, there will be activity at the funeral home as we transition and begin making thoughtful updates.

Once things are settled, we plan to host a community meet and greet to open our doors and connect with you personally.

Most importantly, I want to assure you that our commitment to this community remains unwavering. While change can feel uncertain, it also brings new opportunities for growth and renewal. We believe you will be encouraged by the enhancements we have planned, and we are honored to continue serving families with the same care and compassion that this funeral home has always been known for.

As we finalize the transition of ownership at Harkins Funeral Home, we are seeking reliable and compassionate individuals to join our team on an on-call basis.

Responsibilities will include:

⚰️ Responding to house calls
🏥 Assisting with transfers from nursing homes and hospitals
🕊️ Providing support during funeral services as needed as funeral assistants

Qualified candidates must:
✅ Be reliable and dependable
✅ Have availability at all hours ~ days, nights, and weekends
✅ Be physically capable of lifting
✅ Feel comfortable in a funeral home environment
✅ Ideally have prior experience in emergency services, law enforcement, EMT, or hospice care
