🌍💚 Today is World Mental Health Day.
At Behavioral Foundation Centers, we’re taking a moment to recognize our entire BFC community — our incredible staff, families, and clients — and everyone whose mental health journey deserves care, compassion, and understanding.

We’re thinking of those who

⭐ are waiting for the support they need
⭐ care for others who are struggling
⭐ are fighting to improve mental health services
⭐ have lost someone to su***de
⭐ are finding the courage to ask for help
⭐ have had thoughts of ending their life

Mental health matters every day of every month — but today we pause to raise awareness, extend kindness, and remind one another that it’s okay to ask for help — and it’s always okay to not be okay. 💛

Together, let’s continue creating spaces where every person feels seen, supported, and valued.

MOAS will open an hour early on the first Sunday of each month for Sensory Sundays. This program is designed for families of children, teenagers, and young adults with disabilities who are neurodiverse, on the autism spectrum, or have sensory processing disorders or cognitive disabilities. The museum will be closed to the general public to allow visitors to enjoy the museum in a calm environment. At 11:00am, visitors can enjoy a sensory-friendly children's planetarium show! Shows will rotate throughout the year. Email our Youth and Family Program Manager, Nicole Messervy, at nicolem@moas.org for the show schedule. Advanced RSVP for Sensory Sunday is required.

Purchase your admission in advance online or by calling the Museum at 386-255-0285. Register Online: MOAS.org. Free for members or with paid museum admission.

The Arc of Volusia is proud to bring Wings for All to Daytona Beach!

Wings for All is an airport rehearsal program designed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. On September 6, participants will walk through every step of air travel at Daytona Beach International Airport, in partnership with Breeze Airways - from check-in and TSA to boarding a real plane. Participants will do everything but take off!

We are thrilled to be able to offer this to the entire community, not just Arc of Volusia program participants. Space is very limited, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis by registering online at 🔗www.arcvolusia.org/wings

Some Friday food for thought from :

Just telling a person “Don’t do that” or “Stop this” isn’t support True support is offering something else.. something that still meets the need but in a way that's safer, more helpful, more understood.

Replacement isn't about control. It's about compassion.

It says: "I see you. Try this instead."

This matters for our clients, for our kids, and for ourselves.

Because behavior is communication, not a checklist to control and when we unlock communication we’re supporting the future, together!

Just as we build fortresses of challenging behaviors brick by brick, we can construct positive ones too!

Catch them being awesome, reward immediately, and be consistent. This science-backed approach helps transform occasional awesomeness into go-to habits.

The key is specificity: "I love how you asked for a break," is better than a generic "good job."

What positive behavior are you trying to reinforce with your little one this week?
