As one of America's Best Funeral Homes we salute our local hospice caregivers. "The heart of a hospice caregiver is a rare element on earth. The soul of a hospice caregiver is precious and pure, their spirits are heavenly, of that, I am sure. The selfless compassion and love that they share provides relief, joy, and comfort just knowing they’re there."

Did you know that only half of the 110 Pilgrims who had left England in 1620 survived that first year in the New World? In their second year, however, the Pilgrims flourished with plentiful food sources, thanks in large part to the friendship and guidance of an Abnaki Indian named Squanto. The first Thanksgiving took place in December 1621, when the Pilgrims held a three-day feast in Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts to celebrate their bountiful harvest. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

As we mark National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, we also honor those who care and provide for the victims of this devastating disease. The work of our Nation’s caregivers can be physically demanding and emotionally exhausting — especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when caregivers have made substantial sacrifices to protect their loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s.

HERE'S WHY VETERANS DAY IS ON NOVEMBER 11th: On the morning of November 11, 1918, after four years of war, Allied and German powers met in Rethondes, France, to sign an armistice that halted the hostilities of World War I. The agreement was signed shortly after 5:00 a.m. and went into effect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, finally bringing to an end the carnage of the Great War. One year later, on the first anniversary of the armistice, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first Armistice Day, both to honor the services of the troops and to celebrate the opportunity that victory provided for the United States to advance the cause of peace and justice in the world.

When you lose someone special, your world lacks its celebratory qualities. Holidays magnify that loss. The sadness deepens and the loneliness can feel isolating. The need for support may be the greatest during the holidays. Pretending you don’t hurt and/or it isn’t a harder time of the year is just not the truth for you. But you can – and will – get through the holidays. Rather than avoiding the feelings of grief, lean into them. It is not the grief you want to avoid it is the pain. No one can take that pain away, but grief is not just pain, grief is love.

Hospice care includes care of the patient and family prior to the time of death, at the time of death, and care of the family during the bereavement period. For this reason the compassionate staff of Bacas Funeral Chapels has become an integral part of hospice care by bridging the gap between the time of death and bereavement care. When you consider the philosophy of hospice and funeral service, it is clear why the continuum of care we provide is a "natural extension" of hospice care.
