Some knew him as “Bud Griffith”, “Uncle Bud”, “Pop”, or “Buddy” whichever name you knew him as, one thing was true, He was a Man Who Loved Jesus, Loved People, and never met a stranger.
With a bright smile that could light up a room and a heart devoted to serving others, Bud lived a life that touched countless people and reflected the faith he held so dearly.
Claude Mac Griffith Jr., 92, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and a life devoted to serving others.
Bud was born on June 8, 1933, in Sherman, Texas, to Claude Mac Griffith Sr. and Norma Sally Perkins.
He was married to the love of his life, the late Mary Catherine Griffith, for 58 beautiful years. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Their marriage was a true testament to devotion and partnership.
Bud proudly served his country, when drafted, into the United States Army, 1953-1955. He quickly became a corporal and received both Good Conduct Metal and National Defense Service Metal, during the Korean War. After the military, he continued to serve his community as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 26 years. He took great pride in his work and in the many relationships he built with the people along his route.
Bud was a proud father to his two sons, Bradley Scott “Brad” Griffith and Shannon Dion “Shane” Griffith. Nothing brought him greater pride than his boys, and he cherished every moment watching them grow and build families of their own.
He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, with another precious great grandchild on the way. His family was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Bud loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing throughout his life, finding peace and happiness on the water whenever he had the chance.
Anyone who knew Bud remembers his bright smile, his stories, and the joy he brought into every room. No matter where he was or what situation life placed before him, he held firmly to his faith and believed that God always had a greater purpose. It brought him great joy to serve people daily, and he had a special way of making everyone feel important and valued.
Nine months after Mary’s passing, Bud moved to Nannaw’s Place in Pottsboro, Texas. (Which I’m sure he’s currently hearing about from Mary. )🤣. He loved both the staff and residents. They were so special to him, their families became like his own. They cared deeply for “their Bud”, he was most definitely loved and lived some of his best days there. Our family is forever grateful for the love, kindness, and compassion shown to our “Pop.”
If there is one thing our family knows to be true about “Pop”, it is that he loved Jesus with all his heart. His faith guided the way he lived his life and the way he treated others. We know without a doubt, he will hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” It brings our family great joy to know that he’s walking with Jesus, wearing the same bright smile that blessed so many during his time here on earth.
Bud’s life was a beautiful example of faith, humility, kindness, and service to others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by: His son, Brad Griffith and wife Judy of Sadler, Texas; His son, Shane Griffith and partner Shanda Lawson of Colbert, Oklahoma; five Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren: Christopher Griffith and daughters, Blakely, Charlie and Josie Griffith of Pottsboro, Texas; Jordan Griffith, wife Jamie, son Sawyer and one on the way, of Parker, Colorado; Courtnie Combs and husband Chance, their 3 children Ryleigh, Reagan and RaeLee Combs of Madill, Oklahoma; Elisha Bean and son Ian Copeland of Sherman, Texas; and Malorie Hamner, husband Matt and 2 children Nicholas and Marlee Hamner of Van Alstyne, Texas; His Sisters, Billie Faye Turner of Bonham, Texas and Norma Claudine Allison of Sherman, Texas.
He was preceded in death by: His beloved wife, Mary Catherine Griffith; His parents, Claude Mac Griffith Sr. and Norma Sally Perkins; and four sisters, Evelyn Caldwell, Shirley Heston, Betty Ruth Griffith, and Marie Goldston.
Bud leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, kindness, and service that will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched. While his family will deeply miss him, they find peace and comfort knowing that Bud is now reunited with the love of his life, Mary, and walking hand in hand with the Lord he faithfully served.
A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
