My 8 year old son Jaxsen Kash was just diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on Wednesday January 27, 2021. So I created this page to share our journey with our friends and family and to have and share the wonderful support group we have stumbled upon. To start I will tell you how we got here...
Jaxsen had not been feeling well for a few weeks but didn't seem like he was showing any signs of nothing more than an upset tummy and a sinus infection. Two weeks in a row he was sent home from school on Thursday from throwing up after lunch. Two weeks in a row we went to see his pediatrician on Friday afternoon, the second Friday she did a Covid 19 test on him and results came back the following Monday morning POSITIVE! So as a precaution all other family members went and got tested and theirs all came back negative. I scheduled an appointment for me and thought "what the heck I'll take Jaxsen for a 2nd test". Mind you these were rapids done by a local laboratory service...he and I both came back NEGATIVE!! So I called the pediatrician and told her the results and she assured me that a positive is a positive and to continue quarentining with Jaxsen. One of my main concerns was that Jaxsen was continuously vomiting and wasn't holding down food or liquids and to keep him hydrated and nourished, so she called in some phenergan and said that if it continues after taking the medication to take him to the local ER. Now, as a Mom of a healthy son I didn't have a clue as to what was gonna happen over the next 24hours! Around 12:30am he begged me to let him take a shower (after already taking a bath that evening) so I did although my patience were wearing thin because I was sooo tired. He is very independent so shower routine is simply him washing himself and getting out so that he did. He laid down in the bed with me and was complaining that his back was hurting so I put a pillow behind him and asked if he wanted the heating pad in which he declined and said he was hot and wanted to be by the A\C unit on Dad's side of the bed. Around 2:30am he woke me up and told me he had to go potty and so I told him go ahead. As exhausted as I was I must have dozed off at what point I hear him tell me, "Mom, I think I'm just gonna lay here on the floor to sleep." I IMMEDIATELY jumped up and Jaxsen was on the floor!! So I got him up and took him into my bathroom because he had to pee, called for my husband who was asleep on the couch (quarentining from us) and as he came into the bedroom Jaxsen was throwing up on the floor. My husband tried helping him and noticed he was NOT RIGHT!! We got dressed and hurried to the local hospital 2 miles down the road. Because Jaxsen tested positive he was put in the Covid Unit. Blood work was done and labs came back that he was negative but his blood sugar was 1058, he was in complete DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis)!!!! We live in a small town so they had Children's Hospital in Plano Tx come transport him via ambulance to their hospital 45 minutes away. THANK GOD!!! After spending 5 days at Children's Hospital, going through diabetic training, nutrition crash course, and some experiencing the wonderful nurses and doctors taking great care of him we were sent home. SCARED!!!! WE had to do glucose testing, insulin shots, carb counting, and what WE had to do at home without professional help was so overwhelming and mind blowing to know Jaxsen depended on us to keep him alive! So there it is, there is OUR STORY, JAXSEN'S JOURNEY!!! It starts NOW. Please feel free to give Type 1 Diabetic helpful hints, tips and pointers. If you are in need of support stay here, comment, post, share. Let's start this JOURNEY together in hopes of finding a cure!! *-*- Any money raised will go to medical supplies and things needed to help feed Jaxsen the correct foods, money will help with the gas to make it to his drs appointment in Dallas and Plano which we live a good ways away from them, including toll pays. Also for keytone testing syrups, extra glucose testing straps, alcohol wipes, pen needles insurance does not pay for at this time. Any extra money will be donated to Finding a Cure! This too shall pass! God is with us!
