This organization signifies a rebirth of Chicane & Latine social activism, focusing on awareness of issues and unity amongst Chicanes, Latines, and all marginalized peoples. We believe a lack of social activism and effective participation breeds a fertile ground for others to abuse and denigrate the Chicane & Latine community. Social activism is the engine that can lead to a more prosperous situation for us. Nevertheless, we embrace the support that is lent to us by other organizations and we will work to coalesce the social activist organizations on campus and within the community. As an organization, we support all oppressed and disadvantaged racial, ethnic, and cultural groups within the US, with an understanding that as long as racism exists against one group of people, it will be used against others, including Latines and Chicanes. We support the struggles of Indigenous peoples of the world. We are heirs to the legacy of colonialism and its negative effects on the native people of this continent, many of whom were our ancestors. We cannot forget our indigenous past and cannot accept the power-relations that colonization brought to the world that rationalize the domination of indigenous people if we as descendants of the original inhabitants of the Americas want equality. We support the struggles against imperialism and exploitation in the Global South or "developing" world because many of us come from countries that have been manipulated and exploited for the gains of a global system that does not work in our favor. We support migrants and refugees because we understand that the free movement of people had existed for centuries before being regulated by nation-states at the expense of human rights. We uphold feminist principles and understand feminism to be the theory and practice of women's liberation and equality. With the understanding that half of the Latine or Chicane population are women therefore the struggle for better conditions of all Latines and Chicanes must raise the demands of women and LGBTQ people. We see our organization as a mechanism through which we can bring to attention issues that predominantly or disproportionately affect Chianxs and Latinxs, but never do so at the expense or in opposition to the struggles of others for better living conditions. Rather, we see the need to highlight these issues because we do not feel that they are being adequately addressed. Our purpose is to address these issues to the best of our ability through social activism in order to change them with consideration to the circumstances within which we find ourselves.
