✨ I’m excited to be featured in Voyage Dallas Magazine in their Meet… series!

In the interview, I share my journey into psychology, the inspiration behind Psychologist on the Square, and how I strive to provide affirming mental health support—especially for the LGBQ community.

Thank you to Voyage Dallas for the opportunity, and to everyone who has trusted me along the way. I hope this piece helps others see that it’s possible to build a practice rooted in authenticity, values, and inclusivity.

🌈 Coming Out is not a one time event. A good place to start is with someone you trust, someone who will meet your honesty with care and respect. From there, you can build your circle of support and share more of yourself at your own pace. Remember, this is a process, your process, and there is no timeline or single “right way” to do it.

Stop Waiting for “Later” & Create the Life You Want Now

So many of us postpone joy, health, and purpose until we hit a milestone:

📍 When I move…
📍 When I get that job…
📍 When the kids are older…
📍 When I feel ready…

But here’s the truth: there is no perfect moment coming. Life doesn’t click into place all at once. Life shifts when we start shifting our habits, routines, and mindset in the present.

✨ Want more peace? Start with 5 minutes of stillness today.
✨ Want to feel better in your body? Go for a walk after lunch.
✨ Want to feel more connected? Reach out to one person you care about.

Small changes, practiced regularly, lead to big transformation. You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight. You just need to start with what you have, where you are.

For many gay men, shame is the first language we learn about ourselves. Long before we come out and sometimes even before we understand what we’re feeling, we absorb the message that something about us is wrong.

This shame doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it whispers: in the way we edit ourselves in conversations, in how we hold back affection, in how we second-guess our worth. It hides behind perfectionism, people-pleasing, silence, or sarcasm.

The opposite of shame isn’t pride, it’s acceptance. It’s the quiet, steady knowing that you are allowed to take up space exactly as you are. That your story matters and that you’re not alone in what you’ve felt or feared.

Owning who you are without shame doesn’t mean being loud or fearless all the time. It means refusing to apologize for your existence. It means telling the truth about yourself, even when it’s hard. It means letting yourself be fully seen by others, and by you.

Telling your family about your sexuality means reaching out to them for closeness: it demonstrates many of the things about intimacy:

* thinking of coming out as an act of intimacy may help you decide whether you wish to come out to your family.

* Is your family comfortable with differences between family members? Do they have a strong base of warmth and affection? Do they have skills to deal with anger and other strong feelings?

* Coming out tests the emotional well being of a family.

I am a big reader and want to share books that I think others might benefit from reading. So here we go 🥸 - the first two being focused on gay specific history and identity development.

I really enjoyed “My Government Means to Kill Me.” The title catches your attention and the story is entertaining, educational, and enlightening on the differences of within group experiences. It was a great depiction of the AIDS epidemic and the lack of recognition by the U.S. government. I liked the infusion of gay history and politics as well, with the nuanced perspective of what it meant to be a gay Black man in the mid-1980s.

The “The Deviant’s War: The Homosexual versus the United States of America” is a book that I think is a must read by any sexual minority. It was so educational and provided so much enlightenment on historical context for gay men. I think every sexual minority needs to read this book to really understand an important aspect of history that is ignored and not talked about.

Therapy is often an experience that takes time. It can be frustrating when change isn’t happening at the rate you desire. Growth and change take time.
Remember, it is like a plant metaphor:

It Sleeps.
It Creeps.
It Leaps. 🌱

Are you ready to create the change that you desire?
