ADHD in girls is still widely misunderstood and often missed.

In this post, we explore how ADHD can present very differently in girls compared to boys, often showing up as inattention, internalized anxiety, perfectionism, or quiet overwhelm rather than more visible hyperactive behaviors. These differences, combined with long-standing gender expectations and diagnostic bias, can lead to years of misunderstanding, mislabeling, or delayed support.

We also look at the role of masking, comorbid anxiety and depression, and how these patterns can obscure underlying attention and executive functioning challenges, especially in school settings where “good behavior” is often mistaken for absence of need.

At Elevated Insights Assessment, we see firsthand how often these profiles are missed and the impact that early recognition and accurate diagnosis can have on a child’s confidence, learning, and overall wellbeing.

Dr. Jennifer Paz Ryan a cofounding member of Elevated Insights Assessment is coming up on her 7th year (January 2026) as a proud executive board member of the Autism Society of Colorado. As many of you know grant and state funding have been cut dramatically and our community has faced tremendous challenges with this administration- requiring ongoing advocacy and education to refute rhetoric, misinformation, and fake science. The Autism Society of Colorado may need to drastically cut programs and services offered in 2026 unless we are able to raise the funds to sustain them.

Today we are using our platform to ask for your donation. Your gift ensures that every family, individual, and professional in Colorado has access to sound information and a trusted connection — no matter how rough the waters become. Please join me in giving to Autism Society of Colorado https://www.coloradogives.org/organization/AutismColorado

Your Gift Makes Survival Possible:

$5- we have over 12,000 people who receive our newsletter and over 13,000 followers on our social media- that is 28,000 people who are supporting our work. Just $5 from ½ of our followers can add up to $70,000. That amount would propel us into 2026 with a solid anchor.

Autism Society of Colorado creates connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully. Our vision is to create a world where everyone in the Autism community is connected to the support they need, when they need it.

At Elevated Insights Assessment, we’re committed to helping families navigate information about autism with clarity and compassion. Recently, claims linking prenatal acetaminophen (Tylenol) exposure to autism have resurfaced in social media and popular media discussions—creating understandable concern among parents and professionals alike.

In our latest blog, we take a closer look at what the current research actually tells us (and what it doesn’t). Our goal is to separate fear-based headlines from evidence-based understanding, supporting families and providers in making informed, confident decisions.
