2024 was the year I started taking winters off. To reconnect and refuel, because if you’re in birth work, you know how exhausting it can be and burn out is among the highest in community birth workers.
I restricted my schedule almost to an extreme. 14 births a year is VERY low for me personally. I usually average 25-30.

It was a wild year regardless.
Most of my babies and mamas were repeat and it was so fun to watch their families grow!

2025 I will strictly be taking only repeat clients in order to better serve the community midwife population in assisting at local home births. My schedule will become extremely restricted starting June 2025 and I’m off March and April. I will make exceptions for new home birth moms 🤍

As always I’m so blessed to be able to part of each birth story and journey of these little ones mamas and dads.

Starting in March 2025 I will be slowly changing my schedule into more postpartum care and childbirth education classes. Due to my husband's rigorous seminary schedule I am feeling more of the call to step back from on call birth work while my husband finishes school. It breaks my heart to not be able to labor with mama's (sometimes for days), but during this season it is becoming a lot more clear as to where the Lord has us.
SEASON is the key word. I will continue to grow in my education with labor support, attending workshops and keep all of my certifications up to date, but I feel so blessed to be finishing out 2024 with 90% of my mama's as repeat clients.

Dee & Derek

I had the amazing honor of meeting this sweet family as their doula with their first sweet boy almost two years ago.

So second babies…having a tendency to come at a rather rapid pace…I was ready for that call from them at a moments notice.

Dee’s norm, it seems, is to start labor a week ahead of her estimated due date. So we mutually decided that this baby would be born on July 4th. There was no “maybe” he’ll be born on the fourth, “that’d be fun!”, no we pretty much told this babe that his birthday would be July 4th.

Around 10:00 in the morning, on July 4th…I got the call.
Contractions around 2-3 minutes apart, lasting a minute or more, so I got myself over there. We chatted, we walked, grandma and grandpa came to pick up big brother….contractions slowed to 10-12 minutes apart.

So we came up with a plan. We’ll do a Miles Circuit together, we’ll eat, and we’ll nap this afternoon.
So we spent the next 90 minutes in darkness and listening to the soft sounds of worship in the background.

Contractions picked up midway through the circuit but by the end they were still 10-12 minutes apart. So we collectively decided that food and a nap was in order, so with that I left to get a nap in myself. No more than stepping out of the door did her contractions pick back up to 2-5 minutes apart.

Within the next hour we headed to the hospital.
Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised to find that babe had made some great progress in the last few hours. 7/100/0.

We breathed, we swayed, we took a nap….

Within the next 4.5 hours the urge to push was undeniable. Within 4 minutes, a 1 minute shoulder dystocia, and major determination her sweet boy had been brought fully earth side into the world.

All 9 lbs 10 oz of him.

It’s so fun to watch these sweet families grow, it’s even more exciting to watch motherhood unfold before me.
So proud of you mama, proud and honored to be with you through it.
