With my ever-growing experience and knowledge in yoga, a huge part of my mission in teaching yoga, especially within the western world, is to connect yoga back to its roots, honoring its lineage. My goal is to connect the yogic principles' (eight limbs) in our asana (postures) practice because they are the heart of what yoga is, and are what often left out of westernized yoga practice. As a yoga teacher, and a forever student in yoga, my goal for my students is to teach them about what yoga really means, where it came from, and how we can apply it to our daily lives. Hi friends,

I hope you all are doing well!

With the month of May being Mental Health awareness month, I decided to create a mini-crash course that aims to help ease any symptoms of anxiety and/or depression that are happening in the moment. I figured I'd release it earlier then May just because I know some folks who would benefit greatly from this course.

Part of the reason I created this mini-course was because I have my own personal experience with mental health issues, specifically depression and anxiety.

With the knowledge of how hard it can be living day-to-day life with mental struggles, I wanted to share with you what has helped me learn to cope with my diagnoses'.

Majority of Americans only breathe at 30% lung capacity..

That's not even half of what we're capable of.

To help you guys learn to increase your lung capacity, I am hosting an online, breath-focused yoga class this Saturday from 11am-12pm Mountain time.

With each movement we take in our practice, our goal will be to enhance our breathing practice, no matter where we're at in our breathing journey.

The benefits?

Increased lung capacity creates the ability for more oxygen to get to the brain. If more oxygen gets to the brain, the more clear and focused our mind becomes.

The benefits on the physical body can go on - but I'll save that for Saturday.

i read a part of the yoga sutras.

the very beginning actually.

i’m not sure i understand it totally, but here’s what i got from it so far ⬇️

within all of us, there exists a thinking mind.

there also exists a part of us that judges & creates conclusions from the thoughts we think, based on what we see in our every day lives.

to my understanding (correct me if im wrong), part of the practice of yoga is to cease concluding to judgements based on our thoughts, learning to observe life as it is.

not how we think it is.

that is what i understood from reading the beginning.

Good morning Facebook 🌞

Let's start our day with a 3-part breathing practice!

Not only does deep breathing expand our lung capacity, it also helps calm our nervous system.

Let's get started.

I'll start with a brief explanation to what this breathing practice will look like.

-On your inhales, breathe air into your stomach, then your heart center, and then your throat.

-Hold at the top of your breath for at least 2 seconds.

-On your exhales, release the air from your throat, then your heart center, then your stomach.

-Repeat for at least five rounds just like this.

Before you start: πŸ‘‡

Find a comfortable seated position. This could be sitting cross-legged on the floor, sitting down in a chair, etc. Whatever is most comfortable for you.

Gently place your hands on your thighs or your knees.

Start to close your eyes.

Or maybe your eyes rest at half-mast.

Begin your practice.
