The summer months may bring longer days full of warm weather and beautiful sunshine, but they can also aggravate joint pain and make it harder to find relief. For those whose joints are sensitive to the heat, knowing how to manage pain in the summer is crucial.

It’s common for those with chronic conditions, such as fibromyalgia, to be temperature sensitive—some may be sensitive to cold weather, while others are sensitive to hot weather. Unfortunately, even if you enjoy the warmer weather, your joints may not!

Here’s how the heat and humidity of summer can lead to joint pain:

Humidity may lead to swelling and inflammation in the joints, which can then increase pain and stiffness. The heat itself may be the cause of your joint pain, as well. Specifically, the heat may cause the muscles and tendons around the joint to tighten, leading to pain.

Furthermore, if the weather is too hot, you may find yourself being more inactive, which can then cause pain and stiffness. Learn more and read the full article here: https://loom.ly/CwbFRoA

At Orthopedic Associates, our doctors can help you no matter what joints are experiencing pain. Dr. Imran Choudhry specializes in arthritis of the fingers, while Dr. Eric Lindberg specializes in foot and ankle disorders, including those that result from arthritis.

If you’re ready to enjoy the summer months and finally beat joint pain, contact Orthopedic Associates to set up an apppointment.

When the temperatures rise and the days stretch, many people bypass their sneakers in favor of sandals and flip-flops. However, while these shoes offer a way to beat the heat, they may not provide your joints with the support they need. Read more at: Good Support Starts from the Bottom

When it comes to supporting your body, you need to start at the very bottom. Consider this: when you’re standing, what part of your body holds all your weight? Your feet do, which places a lot of pressure (literally!) on your feet and ankles. However, your feet don’t have to act alone—shoes with proper arch support and cushioning help take on some of the impact, offering your entire body support.

Additionally, your shoes impact how you walk. Specifically, when a shoe doesn’t offer much arch or heel support, your gait may misalign, which can cause you to walk differently. It may seem minor, but even changing your walking stride can cause your joints and ligaments to become strained as they compensate for these changes.

Your shoes can affect your whole body, as well. For instance, if your walking stride changes, your posture may become affected, which can then put pressure on your other joints, especially those in the back. When you take all this into consideration, it’s clear that your footwear choice is much more than just a style option. Learn: How Summer Shoes Affect Your Body click to view the full article here:

While the snow-dusted trees can be beautiful, there is also an extra set of dangers to be aware of as the temperatures dip. Namely, when ice coats the sidewalks, your balance may be called into question more than it is during any other season.

It’s estimated that around 1 million adults in the United States are injured due to slips and falls during the year, and the number of falls increases as the temperature declines. To ensure that you avoid injury in the winter, it’s important to take proper precautions to prevent slips and falls.
