It’s art show season again. Prepping for One of A Kind Chicago

Twice a year my studio transforms into a magical world of fabric scraps and thread blanketing the floor (and my pants, let’s face it), piles of projects lined up in the queue for sewing, linen processing in the dye bath, ad nauseum.

(For reference I am also a textile artist )

Life feels abundant right now. There’s a lot happening.

I gently remind myself that taking *exquisite* care of myself is non-negotiable.
Especially when art show season approaches.

Otherwise my Messy Bed Syndrome flares up (see previous posts).
*
When life feels abundant for you, what does your exquisite self care look like?
When we show up ourselves we can show up for others.

Our perspective shifts when we change our relationship with gravity.

As a student and teacher of Yoga, I am wholly uninterested in acrobatics or performative gymnastics.
Zero interest. You do you, but it’s not for me.

But. I *am* endlessly intrigued by the way my perception of the world changes when I make even the slightest micro movement of my right big toe, the slightest activation of my left quads, a 1/16” tilt of my head upwards. Everything changes when we pay attention to the most subtle of experiences.

Are you breathing?

This is your friendly reminder you don’t need all the things
— you don’t need anything —
to practice Yoga. Just your breath. And maybe a hotel towel if you fancy.

Even when traveling and hoteling: my morning and evening practices are non-negotiable.

Heat, humidity, music, asana, gymnastics, yoga mat, yoga pants, temporarily abled body, studio, teacher, ….. not required.

Iconic landscape.

The desert knows how to be. There is a delicate wisdom to how things unfold in the ecosystem.

The night I arrived, there was a freakish hailstorm. The skies opened up out of nowhere. The locals are saying this is a rare occurrence - but a gift nonetheless.

The cacti are satiated.
When there’s a rainfall, it’s a windfall.

Frolicking among the cacti.

I’m in desert country at the moment - reflecting on my ratio of work : play : rest.

(Hint: it’s way out of balance.)

Maybe you can relate?

You don’t need to frolic among cacti or get on an airplane or even leave your home in order to play or rest.
But I implore you: please, do, pause a moment and ask yourself what’s really important in life.

There’s your answer.

When studios closed during lockdown in 2020, in countless virtual classes I watched (with equal parts curiosity and horror) many colleagues and students from around the globe attempt to recreate a hot yoga experience - wearing full body nylon space suits, cranking up space heaters in bathrooms with the shower on full blast.

You do not need any of these things to practice Yoga.

Read that again.

When we depend on anything other than ourselves in order to practice, we create more suffering when those things aren't available to us.

Learn how to create + commit to your own home Yoga practice. Just you, showing up for you, whenever and wherever you need: no studio, class schedule, teacher, heat, humidity, mirror, altar, fancy Yoga mat - or even asana - required.

(Reminder: Yoga is far more than just postures.)

HOW YOU'LL BENEFIT
• design your own practice that you can incorporate throughout your day, regardless of circumstance or situation

* gain clarity around why you want to create a personal practice (such as prioritizing your self-care for improved sleep, mood, creativity, or better manage stress?)

* create a personalized, realistic plan to help you stay committed to your intention

* get group accountability + support through weekly check-ins

* learn suggestions + strategies for navigating challenges and obstacles to practice

Hello dear ones. it's been awhile.

I haven't shared anything here since my first land until now, only) post,
Jan 3 2021.
A lot has changed since then.

I wasn't sure how I wanted to use this space.
Or what I even wanted to share. So I took a few years to marinate.

And what has emerged, with unshakeable clarity, is this:
Navigating identity and life changes can be challenging.

It can feel impossible to see in the dark when we lose core pieces of our identity. We might feel lost.
And I know the dark, deeply.

This 6am beach selfie is a reminder to myself - and to you - that the sun will always rise.
It may take some time, but it will indeed rise again.

So here l am. I am back.
And I have some things to share. I hope some of it might resonate.

Lots more to come, very soon. Including insights, an updated website, new offerings, and opportunities to invest in yourself and your community.
Stay tuned?

XO,
Breanne
