I am a medical professional, psychotherapist, professional speaker and consultant with more than 20 years experience in clinical practice, management,

teaching, and training. My areas of expertise include counseling, psychiatry, health education, wellness programs, and manager training. Additionally, I have an extensive background in Occupational Medicine that has included leading onsite medical clinics, assessing and treating workplace injuries, counseling employees with chronic medical and mental health conditions, managing medical leave of absence, guiding successful return to work, and working with employees and supervisors regarding acute or long-term medical accommodations facilitating successful job performance. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Occidental College, where I studied Kinesiology. I went on to Yale University where I trained as a Family Nurse Practitioner and earned my Master’s Degree, graduating with Honors in 2000. In 2015, I earned a second graduate degree and an additional Board Certification in Psychiatry through the University of Arizona (Tucson). Since beginning clinical practice in 2000, I have served a broad spectrum of patients in a wide range of settings including Primary Care, Urgent Care, College Health, and Occupational Medicine. Early in my career, I learned fluent Spanish to attend to a wider range of clients. I've embraced the opportunity to learn from and attend to people across a broad spectrum of ages, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, educational background, cultures and nationalities. with many different backgrounds and needs. Through these experiences, I have learned that the best teachers have the humility to learn from everyone. I've found that the key to excellently serving individuals and organizations is to listen more than you speak. I founded my private practice Calm Clarity Mental Health in 2014. The number of people experiencing burnout is rising and causing concern for employers and employees.

Traditionally, burnout is viewed as an individual problem caused by overwork, stress, and a lack of work-life balance. However, research has revealed that the root causes of burnout are often systemic and due to unfavorable working conditions, such as unequal promotion opportunities, lack of flexibility, feelings of exclusion or loneliness, and values misalignment.

Preventing workplace burnout is crucial for the organization's and its employees' overall health.

Organizations that fail to address burnout run the risk of high turnover rates, decreased productivity, and poor employee morale. Workplace wellness is a growing trend in the United States as employers increasingly recognize the importance of supporting their employees' mental health.

The issue is not just that our mental health is getting worse; it's that we are not using the proper tools to address it. As a result, more and more of us are experiencing mental illness, and no one is immune to it.

Burnout, stress, insomnia, anxiety, and depression are becoming the leading cause of disease. That's why companies need policies that help their employees deal with mental illness, stress, and burnout. California Rep. Mark Takano, who recently reintroduced the bill, says it would “allow workers to begin reclaiming their time, and their lives, with no loss of pay” and “increase the happiness of humankind.”

According to Time Magazine:

Individual experiments around the globe—more than 30 companies in the U.S. have tried it—have long found that a four-day week makes workers happier. But the new report goes into more depth on exactly how. Job satisfaction was higher for over 45% of participants and 60% said it improved work-life balance.

Although 16.7% of people said that having to fit work into a tighter schedule had increased their stress levels, nearly double that amount, at 32.4%, said their stress levels had gone down over the trial period.
