Today is National Hummingbird Day! Did you know that a hummingbird’s relatively large eyes are wired to pick up many more hues than human eyes can see. Hummingbird retinas possess four types of cones, while humans have only three. This fourth cone allows them to see ultraviolet (UV) light, helping them perceive colors and patterns on flowers that are hidden from our view and helps them find nectar.
