Feel like you are rocking on a boat? 🛳
Seeking men and women over the age of 21 with Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS) for a research study in Denver Colorado.
The title of the study is: Physical therapy for symptom reduction using sensory re-weighting for people with Mal de Debarquement Syndrome.
To qualify for the study, you must be diagnosed with MdDS and have had rocking symptoms daily for at least one month following travel on an airplane, ship, or car etc.
The purpose of the research is to evaluate a program to reduce the sense of motion at rest in people with MdDS. The treatment will modify how you use vision, inner ear (vestibular), and movement information from your legs and feet (somatosensation) to balance. Exercise type and difficulty will be customized to each individual.
The research has 2 parts: 2-3 weeks of testing 1 hour twice weekly, followed by 3 weeks of treatment three times weekly for 45-60 min. A final testing session occurs in the week after completing the treatments.
Risks may include a temporary increase in your rocking or movement sensation.
Benefits may be improvements in balance and in decreased sensation of rocking or movement when you are at rest.
Participants will receive $10. per session.
