The World Health Organization reports that nearly 1 in 3 adults worldwide are not getting enough movement. But movement doesn't have to mean a gym membership or an hour-long workout.

Movement belongs to everyone, and all of our bodies need it. At WHC, we help participants find ways to build up to at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity each week, whether through intentional workouts or simply finding more ways to get your heart rate up throughout the day.

Movement is one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine we cover in our program. We help participants understand what it does for their health and find what actually works in their real life.

Most people think of stress as something to push through, manage on their own, or deal with later. The reality is that chronic stress has a measurable impact on your body. It raises your blood pressure, disrupts your sleep, and drives up inflammation. Over time, stress contributes to the same chronic diseases that lifestyle medicine is designed to prevent.

This is why managing stress is one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine at WHC. In our program, participants learn practical tools like breathwork, mindfulness, and how to identify and respond to their own stress patterns.

When people have the right tools to manage stress, their bodies respond. Stress is one of many factors that can drive inflammation, and learning to manage it is one of the ways we support whole-body health. In our program, 44% of our participants reduced their inflammation markers.

Stress management is about building the capacity to handle what life throws at you without your body paying the price.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in five Americans lives with a mental health condition, yet nearly half will never receive treatment. Not because they don't want help, but because the system was not built to reach them where they are.

For people in underserved communities, the barriers are even higher. Limited access to care, cost, stigma, and a healthcare system that too often treats symptoms rather than the whole person.

Most traditional healthcare is built around one condition at a time. Physical health in one appointment, mental health in another, often with different providers and long waits in between. We designed our program to bridge that gap. Every class, every session, and every conversation is built to address both at the same time, so that participants are not left to navigate the space in between on their own.

This month, for Mental Health Awareness Month, we will be sharing more about what whole-person care looks like in practice. Follow along to see how our work improves mental health outcomes with our patients.

Knowing what is nutritious to eat is not the same as being supported to actually change your habits.

Most advice around eating healthy assumes you have time to cook, money for fresh food, and the energy to make a different choice at the end of a long day. This is not the reality for a lot of people, and it is not how we teach nutrition at WHC.

Working with WHC means our nurse practitioners sit with each participant, look at their lab work, and collaborate with them to design small, realistic changes that fit their real lives.
33% of our participants reduced their blood sugar and 44% reduced their inflammation markers.

This is what happens when care is built around a person's real life instead of a one-size-fits-all plan.

Follow along in May as we dive deeper into what lifestyle medicine looks like in practice.

There are preventable differences in health outcomes experienced by underserved communities due to income, geography, and barriers to access quality care. At WHC, we address the health equity gap by working within community-built organizations to decrease these barriers.

As nurses, we see firsthand what happens when healthcare only treats the symptoms and ignores the root cause.

That’s why our program is built differently, centered around goals to improve wellness, prevent chronic disease, protect mental health, reduce long-term healthcare costs, and build community connection. By educating our participants on the pillars of lifestyle medicine through personalized sessions, our program has seen remarkable results. Achieving these goals is the foundation for real, sustainable change in health.

This is why we do this work.

Your community members deserve more than a 15-minute appointment. They deserve a team that stays with them.

Over six months, we support participants through shared medical appointments, 1:1 coaching, access to a Nurse Practitioner, and weekly check-ins to build the pillars of a healthy lifestyle.

Our healthcare system wants you to avoid sickness. We want you to be whole.

That means bringing lifestyle medicine directly into communities, including partner organizations, clinics, and spaces where people already are, and doing the work that transforms lives.

Through a nurse-led program built on nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, connection, and more, we meet people where they are and coach them toward whole-person health.
