What does having a Holistic Birth mean?
As a birth doula and a person that's given birth, I've learned that having a baby is so much more than a physical experience. When a baby is born, so is the mother and it is important to make sure her entire well being is nurtured.

Giving birth is physical, emotional and spiritual. Taking a holistic approach means that the mother feels safe both physically and mentally. This starts with trusting her doctor or midwife to make sure they remain healthy throughout pregnancy and labor. Hiring an outside person such as a doula, can ensure her mental and spiritual health is also thought of.

Being a Holistic Doula, means I make it my priority to make sure we address your fears and concerns giving birth. Shedding light on these thoughts can help start the process of reigning them and acknowledging what may happen and coming to peace with that. In labor, it's my job to maintain your spiritual space and make sure your rights and needs are respected.

Feeling respected physically, emotionally and spiritually leads to a greater self confidence as a parent and a better bond with your baby.

Everyone deserves to have a holistic birth.

I've been SO busy wrapping up my summer with my sweet boys and getting them settled into school.

But, this week marks back to work for me, as I prepare for my October births and FINALLY finalize my Childbirth Educator certification. I can't wait to offer these new classes 😁

August 1st thru 7th marks World Breastfeeding Week. As a Certified Lactation Counselor and mother to two breastfed kids, breastfeeding is a very important topic to me.

Successfully breastfeeding your baby can help create an extraordinary bond. Not only is it emotionally soothing, it has many health benefits including: it is the best source of nutrition for baby, it helps build immunity by passing on the mother's antibodies, your baby will have a lower risk of asthma, obesity and Type 1 diabetes, it's convenient and the mother will have a lower risk of breast and ovarian cancer, Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

I work with my clients prenatally to get them off to a good start breastfeeding, as soon as their baby is born.

What is a Birth Doula? I get asked this question almost every time I introduce myself as one.

A Birth Doula is someone you hire to support you in your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. Prenatally, I help my clients discover their intentions for their birth. Whether that's to go completely unmedicated, or to get an epidural if needed. My goal is to make sure you a prepared mentally and have the knowledge to feel empowered and to make in informed decisions. I will always provide unbiased and evidence based information.

When my clients are in labor, I provide physical and emotional support, as well as make sure they are informed when making any decisions. I spend a lot of time giving hip squeezes and answering questions! I'll also just hold space when necessary.

After my clients give birth, I visit with them to make sure they are receiving the support they need and as a Certified Lactation Counselor, I also offer breastfeeding support.

Basically my job is to mother the mother 💜

Welcome to HudMama Holistic Birth!

I became a Doula in March 2016, after having given birth to my first son. Before that, I had worked in finance for 8 years but his birth was so transformative, I knew I was being called to follow a new path. His birth taught me so much about myself and what birth should be. I became passionate about helping people feel supported and empowered while they birth. Because I truly believe that when you have a positive birth, you will go on to have a beautiful bond with your new baby.

My second child was born in the peace and love of our home, and reinforced my belief that when the body is left to birth how it was meant to, labor does not have to be difficult. Labor is called labor for a reason, but it can be an amazing experience.

I want my clients to head into their labor and birth knowing that it will be hard work, but that they can do hard work. In fact, we were created to do just that. You were meant to bring your baby into this world like a warrior.
