Big energy, expert insight and a shared commitment to kids’ heart health. 💙🏀

As the official pediatric healthcare partner of the Denver Nuggets, HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s was proud to take part in the Denver Nuggets Gameday Clinic, where Dr. Mike DiMaria and Kim DiMaria, director of the Congenital Heart Program, connected with parents to talk about pediatric heart health.

From the court to the community, opportunities like this reflect how our team shares specialized expertise with families and helps parents feel informed, supported and confident in their child’s care.

At HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s, educating families is one more way we care for kids beyond our walls.

What an incredibly fun day! We teamed up with our partners at Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation and the Colorado Avalanche for a special volunteer event supporting our pediatric patients—and it was a perfect example of how we show up for our families and our community.

Volunteers jumped right in to build distraction kits, create colorful friendship bracelets, and write heartfelt messages in 1st birthday cards for babies in the RMCHF donor milk program. Every activity was filled with creativity and compassion—bringing comfort and smiles to families who need it most.

We’re truly grateful to Colorado Avalanche players Jack Drury ( #18) and Joel Kiviranta ( #94) for joining us, spending time with our patients and colleagues, and signing cards as part of the event. You helped make an already special day unforgettable! As the official pediatric healthcare sponsor of the Colorado Avalanche, we’re proud to come together in support of children and families in our community.

We’re honored to partner closely with Rocky Mountain Children’s Health Foundation, whose dedication helps create moments like this and supports children and families in our community every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up—we couldn’t have done it without you!

ACL injuries are on the rise - especially in young women. Research shows female athletes are two to five times more likely to suffer ACL tears compared to males, often during movements like cutting, pivoting or landing from a jump.

Why is this happening? It’s not just one reason - factors like training load, muscle strength, movement patterns and even access to proper conditioning all play a role.

The good news? Prevention is possible. Dr. Brooke Pengel, a pediatric orthopedic specialist with HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s, discusses how common the injury is and prevention tips:

Dr. Brooke Pengel, a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist with HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's talks aboiut how common the injury is and why it is on the rise in one particular group of women.

At 20 years old, Sydney Alexander was studying abroad when severe headaches, shortness of breath and extreme fatigue began disrupting her life. After returning home and becoming too weak to stand, she was sent to the ER for a blood transfusion — where she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Alone in Colorado while her family was in Illinois, Sydney was admitted to HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s Hospital. Though scared and unsure of what to expect, she quickly found comfort in the compassionate care of Dr. Clark and the pediatric oncology team, who guided her through every step with clarity and kindness.

After a month-long initial hospital stay and two years of treatment, Sydney celebrated ringing the bell 🔔 on February 26, marking the end of her treatment journey.

Today, Sydney is working hard to regain her strength despite nerve damage caused by treatment. She is finishing school to become a dietitian and is also working toward earning her personal training certification. Inspired by her own journey, she hopes to help others prioritize their health and wellness.

Her story is one of resilience, determination and hope.

Thank you to The ACORN Project — led by Eberley’s parents, Lindsey & Rich — for the incredible support of our NICU families at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s. 💙

Because of your generosity (and everyone who donated), 83 care bags were delivered to families spending long days and nights by their baby’s side. And to our NICU nurses: thank you for the compassion, skill and steady presence you bring to every family, every day.

Your kindness is a reminder to these families that they are not alone.

A can happen after a hard hit to the head or a sudden jolt that causes the brain to move inside the skull. 🧠 Because some symptoms show up right away – and others may not appear for hours or even days – it’s not always easy to know when to simply rest and when to seek medical care.

Happy Child Life Month! 💙

This month, we’re celebrating the child life specialists who bring comfort, calm and connection to kids and families at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s.

Hannah, Kara, Coree and Kristan — thank you for the kindness you show, the reassurance you offer and the joy you help create in moments that can feel overwhelming. We’re grateful for you, and we’re honored to have you as part of our team.

And we can’t forget two very special members of the Child Life support team — our facility dogs, Lemon and Posey — who help brighten days with gentle companionship, wagging tails and plenty of comforting cuddles.

If a Child Life Specialist has made a difference for your family, we’d love to hear it — please share a note of thanks in the comments.
