What started as a frightening Friday morning for Lucie — an Arvada West High School senior and multi-sport athlete — turned into an incredible story of resilience, determination, and how with expert pediatric care at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s.

During Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's joins our broader HCA Healthcare are network in recognizing the first responders and EMS professionals – both in our communities and across our organization – who answer the call when patients need care most.

Each year, approximately 10 million patients receive care in HCA Healthcare emergency rooms and many of those patients rely on EMS professionals for safe, timely transport to our ERs, as well as critical care along the way.

We’re proud to honor these dedicated first responders and EMS teams. Thank you for showing up with skill, courage and compassion every hour of every day. We’re grateful for the life-saving care you provide and the steady support you bring to the patients and communities you serve.

Today, our NICU team is proudly celebrating International Kangaroo Care Awareness Day — recognizing the incredible impact of skin-to-skin contact for premature and medically fragile babies. 💜

Kangaroo care is more than a special bonding moment. Research shows that skin-to-skin contact can provide many important benefits for premature infants, including:

• Helping regulate temperature, heart rate, and breathing
• Supporting healthy weight gain and growth
• Improving sleep and brain development
• Encouraging breastfeeding success
• Reducing stress for both babies and parents
• Strengthening the emotional bond between babies and their families

For premature infants especially, these moments of closeness can make a meaningful difference in their growth and development.

We are grateful to our dedicated NICU team for the compassionate care they provide every day and for continuing to champion family-centered care practices that support our smallest patients and their loved ones.

Welcoming a new baby can bring joy as well as emotional changes you may not expect. Some feelings – often known as “baby blues” – may pass quickly, while others may be signs of postpartum depression. Understanding the difference matters.

🔹 are temporary, mild mood swings that often begin a few days after delivery and typically improve within two weeks.

🔹 is a more serious condition involving persistent or intense mood changes. It can affect daily functioning and bonding with your baby. Symptoms may begin during pregnancy or within the first year after delivery and can last for months without treatment.

This Mother’s Day, we’re honored to celebrate the strength, love, and resilience of moms like Vivian Hernandez. 💙

When complications arose during Vivian’s pregnancy at just 19 weeks, she was admitted to HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke’s high-risk maternity unit—where every moment mattered for both her and her baby.

Just three weeks later, Sebastian entered the world at 22 weeks, weighing only 1 lb. 2 oz.—scarcely more than four sticks of butter. What followed was an extraordinary journey: 113 days in the Level IV NICU at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s, where our dedicated small baby team provided highly specialized, around-the-clock care.

Thanks to that expertise—and Sebastian’s incredible strength—he went home two weeks before his original due date. A moment his parents and big sister will cherish forever.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Vivian, and all the moms who face the unexpected with courage and unwavering love.

🐾 Paws everything you’re doing because we have some "fetching" news! 🐾

Today we are throwing a bone-fide celebration for a very special member of the HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's family. Join us in wishing a Happy 5th Work Anniversary to our favorite four-legged healer, Posey!

Posey joined our Child Life team on May 3, 2021, and she’s been working ever since to make sure our pediatric patients feel brave and loved. To celebrate the occasion, Posey was "howling" with excitement to receive her official 5-year anniversary pin! She's showing it off with pride (and maybe hoping for an extra treat or two).
