Did you know that we offered animal-assisted therapy? We have two therapy dogs in our office, Mabel and Edie, that cannot wait to meet you and work on your therapeutic goals!

Animal-assisted therapy is used to enhance and complement the benefits of traditional therapy. The client, therapist and family work together to target specific goals for therapy, and develop a plan for how the animals can assist in client progress. 🔊 In this edition of Diagnosis My Dog, we are discussing Wernicke's aphasia. It is a disorder of understanding spoken and written language. It is most commonly caused by a stroke. Patients have normal grammar and rate of speech, however their speech lacks meaning, and they are unaware of their errors.

Severity ranges from being unable to understand even the simplest spoken and/or written information to missing minor details of a conversation.

Symptoms include difficulty understanding speech, poor word finding, speech that lacks meaning, mispronunciations, using the wrong word or made up words, run-on speech, and difficulty with reading and writing.

People with Wernickie’s aphasia can get better and should start speech therapy as soon as possible.
