Seniors are often prone to falls, but there are steps you can take to help keep them safe and independent.

🧹 Keep Walkways Clear - remove tripping hazards such as rugs and cords and keep driveways clear of debris

🛠️ Install Safety Aids - consider adding handrails, grab bars, and other safety aids

💡 Keep Rooms and Paths Well-Lit - make sure there is good lighting and create a well-lit path between the bedroom and bathroom

🚶‍♀️ Ensure Proper Cane and Walker Use - encourage your loved one to use the device and make sure the device is adjusted to the right height

🗓️ Plan Health Monitoring - take now of glucose readings and plan for regular checkups

🩸 Understand How to Test Blood Sugar Levels - consider using a continuous glucose monitor and schedule lab tests for A1c

🚶‍♂️ Prepare for Potential Mobility Problems - be ready to accommodate their slower gait and have devices such as wheelchairs ready

🩺 Know Health Issues Linked to Diabetes - understand the different complications that may accompany diabetes including hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and kidney problems

💊 Keep Track of Medications - ensure medications are taken on time and pay attention to interaction between medications

We’re shining the spotlight on our marvelous CNA - Mystie Rodriques. She’s been a driven and encouraging CNA at our Grand Junction location for 2 months. While she just started working with us at Human Touch, her positive energy has brought smiles to her clients and colleagues.
What she loves most about her job is getting to help people who need it and can’t do things for themselves anymore. She enjoys working with her clients and the other incredible women at Human Touch. One of the most remarkable chapters of her life was building her own home and living off the grid in the desert for 8½ years, a testament to her fearless spirit.

Caring for a loved one can be difficult, caring for someone with Alzheimer can be a journey of love, patience, and strength. Here are some tips to help you on this journey:

🗓️ Develop a Routine - bathing, dressing and eating at the same time each day
📅 Create a System of Reminders - write down to-do lists, mark calendars, and other visual cues
👕 Support Their Abilities - allow them to do as much as possible
🚿 Make Daily Tasks Easier - get comfortable, easy-to-wear clothing, use a shower chair, and make the home a comfortable environment
💜 Be Patient and Respectful - let the person know what you’re going to do step by step as you help them

Remember to take care of yourself - your loved one needs you at your best.
