Judi's House

Judi's House Judi's House is a community-based nonprofit bereavement center for children and families.

Founded by former NFL quarterback Brian Griese and his wife, Dr. Brook Griese, Judi’s House is a tribute to Brian’s mother, Judi, whom he lost to breast cancer when he was 12. As Brian grew up grieving this loss, he made a commitment to use his resources to positively impact grieving children. The Grieses discovered that there were no organizations devoted to this population and dedicated themselves to offering a safe, compassionate environment where children could grieve and begin the lifelong healing process.

January is Mental Wellness Month! This month is a powerful time to focus on proactive self-care, healthy habits, and building resilience, especially in the midst of grief.

Small, consistent daily practices can strengthen our capacity to navigate life’s challenges. Some examples are:
🗓️ Creating routines
😔 Expressing emotions
🫶 Staying connected
🫂 Asking for support

As you move into the year ahead, we invite you to check in with yourself, extend compassion inward, and take steps that support your overall well-being. Mental wellness is something we can nurture, one day at a time.

The new year can bring pressure to “move on” or “start fresh.” At Judi’s House, we know grief doesn’t follow a calendar.

Instead of resolutions, we’re holding gentle intentions, grounded in care, patience, and support for ourselves and for grieving children, teens, and families.

However you’re entering this year, you’re not alone.

Judi’s House staff at the office today took some time to gather right before noon for a fun “Noon Year’s Eve Eve” countdown and early celebration of all the things we accomplished in 2025. 🎉

We took time to connect by sharing what we’re leaving behind in 2025 and what we’re grateful for from the year, so we can start fresh in 2026 with intention and gratitude. Cheers to reflection, connection, and new beginnings! ✨

The holidays can be joyful and heavy, sometimes all at once. This season, we’re inviting families to try a simple practice together:

🧘 Relax – Slow down. Breathe. Take a walk, a bath, or a quiet moment to release tension.
👂 Listen – Notice your thoughts. Be gentle with yourself. Listen to one another. Often the greatest gift is simply being heard.
🎲 Play – Make space for laughter and connection. Games, movement, music, or silliness all count. Joy matters, even in grief.

At Judi’s House, we believe taking breaks from grief isn’t avoidance, it’s care. May this season include moments of calm, connection, and light. 💙

If you want it shorter, more playful, or more reflective, I can tweak the tone.

The holidays can bring up many different emotions. They bring joy but can also stir up grief, stress, and other complex feelings. If this season feels heavy, you’re not alone.

Gentle self-care reminders this holiday season:
✨ Give yourself permission to feel whatever comes up
✨ Keep a daily routine that brings comfort or calm
✨ Honor your loved one in a way that feels meaningful to you
✨ Ask for support and connection
✨ Take breaks when you need them

At Judi’s House, we believe caring for yourself is not selfish, but necessary. Be kind to yourself this season. 💙

When children are exposed to frightening events, whether directly or through what they hear or see, it can be difficult to know how to help them make sense of it all. Supportive, age-appropriate resources can make a meaningful difference.

We’re sharing a few trusted tools from Sesame Workshop that may help caregivers and professionals support children through these moments:

💻 Free English & Spanish resources at:
• All Topics (www.sesame.org/resources)
• Community Violence (www.sesameworkshop.org/topics/violence/)
• Traumatic Experiences (sesameworkshop.org/topics/traumatic-experiences/)

We are grateful for everyone who continues to show up for children and families during times of loss and uncertainty. If these resources are helpful, please feel free to share them within your community.
