Looking at a growth chart is different than looking your score on a math test:
MATH: 95% is great!!
GROWTH CHART: 95% might be great, but 5% might be great too. It depends!!

The percentiles on a growth chart allow up to compare an individual patient to a standard. They don't tell us that a baby is healthy. Growth charts can be confusing. Triple Feeding. *big sigh*

Lots of moms come to Woven Pediatrics on a Triple Feeding schedule: nurse, pump, bottle. (See top photo.) Nobody likes it. Nobody wanted it to be that way. Most of the time, it's totally unnecessary.

There are many ways to change up a Triple Feeding schedule to find something that works! (See bottom photo.) If you are Triple Feeding, you need to schedule a breastfeeding medicine consult.

Triple Feeding. *big sigh*

Lots of dyads present to Woven Pediatrics on a Triple Feeding schedule: nurse, pump, bottle. (Top picture.) Nobody likes it. Nobody wanted to do it this way. And it is not necessary in almost all circumstances.

There are lots of ways to change up Triple Feeding to get baby fed better, increase supply and help baby's dynamics at the breast. (Maybe the bottom picture!?!)

Dr. Stephanie has seen thousands of these! All of these growth charts are different, and none are better than the other. Dr. Stephanie can't tell you which one is "best." There are a lot of things to consider when looking at these charts (which show weight here). Breastmilk? Or not? Born premature? Does the weight match the height? Is the baby happy and smiley and developing normally? How did the parents and siblings grow as kids?

Please be sure you discuss your baby's growth chart with your pediatrician. Especially if breastfed! If you have concerns, please be sure to schedule a follow-up. Even better, schedule an appointment with a breastfeeding medicine doc!

1. B**b Support: Heavy and engorged breasts need support. Please be sure you have a good nursing bra - going without a bra will pull and tug and cause pain.

2. Pillow Support: Newborns are not strong enough to latch and feed effectively. They need strong cross cradling arms and lots of pillows. Mom should not be hunched over - bring baby to breast, not breast to baby.

3. Emotional Support: Mamas!! Ask for help. You need it. It's okay. Partners!! Try to anticipate when mom needs help so she doesn't have to ask.
