The Teamsters Local 455 Leaner Meaner Greener slate of delegates, led by Secretary-Treasurer Dean Modecker, President Alan Frisbee, and Vice-President Herb Whitake will represent Teamsters Local 455 at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters 2026 Convention. The LMG slate won the Teamsters Local 455 delegate election, defeating the 455 Working Teamsters Slate by a vote of two-to-one. Said Dean Modecker; Teamsters Local 455 Secretary-Treasurer, "We are honored by the trust Teamsters Local 455 members have placed in us to lead Teamsters Local 455 at the 2026 International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention, and we are even prouder of our more than 11,000 members who lift up working families throughout our jurisdiction.

The picket signs are ready, portapotties are scheduled and the entrances and exits to Breakthru Beverage's Denver property are mapped after 145 Teamsters Local 455 Breakthru members unanimously authorized a strike on Sunday. Their contract expires Tuesday at midnight and this crew is fired up and ready to go. "The company has made it patently clear our members are not their number one concern," said Dean Modecker, Teamsters Local 455 Secretary-Treasurer. "Safety isn't just a poster."

Colorado Teamsters rallied at the state capitol last week to call on lawmakers to support House Bill 26-1286. The legislation would allow Coloradans to vote on a referendum requiring human operators in commercial autonomous vehicles (AVs) weighing more than 26,000 pounds. It would be the first-ever statewide ballot question regarding AV regulations in the nation. Teamsters Local 455 Member Nate McCarty, an ABF Freight Driver and Safety Ambassador, addressed the dangers of fully-automated commercial vehicles on Colorado roadways.

The Vairma Scholarship Fund awards three $2,000 scholarships, two $5,000 scholarships and one $10,000 scholarship annually to outstanding high school seniors who are the children or grandchildren of Teamsters Local 455 members in good standing! Join us at noon Friday, March 20, at the Colorado State Capitol to demand passage of HB 26-1286, a crucial bill moving through the Colorado General Assembly that would require a human operator in any commercial vehicle weighing more than 26,000 pounds that is operated by an automated driving system. When passed out of the Colorado State House, this bill will be put to the voters on the November 2026 ballot. We did it! We reached a of majority union authorization cards at the Denver City and County Auditor's Office! And today we filed our demand for union recognition!

After months of hard work and building solidarity, we took the first major step toward collective bargaining and having a voice in our future!

Denver voters in 2024 approved a ballot issue that gives some Denver City and County employees the right to form a union and collective bargaining, and we are wasting no time honoring the will of the voters.

Here's what comes next: We're awaiting a decision from the arbitrators regarding card check recognition. If our demand for recognition is certified, the next step will be the bargaining table. If not, it's an election and we are positioned to win!
