Last Tuesday, October 28, our very own Cate McGraw, ANP-C, took the stage at the Denver Osteoporosis Action Forum!

As Lead Clinic Manager of our Bone Health Clinic, Cate shared how our team built a comprehensive bone health program, helping other systems create similar models to better prevent fractures and support long-term bone strength.

Cate was joined by by Neurosurgery One specialty clinic nurse practitioners Jennifer Sousa, A-GNP, and Tessa Henderson, ACNPC-AG, FNP-BC, who help bring comprehensive bone health services to patients throughout the Denver region. We're proud of them for representing Neurosurgery One’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and proactive patient care here in our community.

We should all know the common symptoms so we can spot them after a fall, head bump, or injury, both for ourselves or someone we love.

Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) is a newly FDA-approved treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. In less than 1 minute a day, VNS activates the body’s natural systems to reduce inflammation.

The result? Less pain without more medications.

When you’re dealing with pain, it can feel like you need to see a surgeon right away to get answers.

But what most patients don’t realize is that it’s actually the standard of care to see an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), like a Physician Associate (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), first.

Your APP is trained to:

- Evaluate your symptoms

- Order and interpret imaging

- Prescribe medications, injections and non-surgical treatments

- Refer you to a surgeon or interventional pain management specialist if conservative treatments have failed

If you saw the surgeon first, you’d still have to follow the same steps — and it might take even longer since surgeon’s schedules fill up fast.

The benefits from seeing an APP:

- You can be seen sooner (typically within 5 days at Neurosurgery One)

- An APP will take the exact same steps a surgeon would order

- You save time on your path to relief

Our neurosurgeons, pain specialists, and APPs work closely together to make sure you’re getting the right diagnosis and treatment, without unnecessary delays.
