🍓Secret Ingredient Berry Fruit Salad 🍓
*
It might be after Labor Day, but you know I’m still making fruit salad if I can find organic berries! I love to keep a big bowl of this on hand for when I’m craving something sweet. The berries keep it low glycemic, and as long as it’s paired with some protein and fat, this is a blood sugar and GD friendly treat! To keep your blood sugar on point, pair this fruit salad with full fat (whole milk) Greek yogurt, full fat (and also low/no sugar) coconut yogurt, heavy whipping cream, full fat cottage cheese, or have it alone after a lower carb, higher fat/protein meal.
*
Ingredients:
🍓One 16 oz. package fresh organic strawberries—I cut the strawberries into bite size pieces.
🫐One 6 oz package each of fresh raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.
🍉One quarter of a watermelon, cubed. I don't use the entire quarter, but you can adjust to your taste
🍋Fresh squeezed juice from 1 organic lemon
*4 ish chopped dates (to taste)
🍃 Chopped fresh basil (to taste)—this is my secret ingredient! Most fruit salads use mint, but I loooove the complexity basil brings to a fruit salad.
*
What about you? What’s your secret fruit salad ingredient? Have you ever used basil???

💫FREE TRAINING💫

Last week in my private Facebook mamas group, I revealed the BIGGEST mistake in managing Gestational Diabetes (and blood sugar in general for you non-GD mamas). Well I'm SUPER passionate about other mamas not making the same mistake, so I’m hosting a free masterclass on the 3 Secrets to Avoiding or Managing GD Without Meds! Keep reading and I’ll recap the big mistake AND tell you how to sign up ;)⁣

Too many mamas struggle with their blood sugar... but they continue believing that if they just keep trying different AMOUNTS of carbs, or different TYPES of carbs, or different COMBINATIONS of carbs, that they’ll eventually get it right.⁣

They think focusing all their attention on carbs is helping, but in reality it’s holding them back... and can even be the reason they end up on meds!

Here’s why.⁣

When you ONLY focus on carbs, it might give you a quick win in the beginning. BUT it also keeps you from seeing the bigger picture: sustainable blood sugar balance is not JUST about what carbs you eat. It’s also about how you eat, your stress, your sleep, and your movement.⁣

By focusing only on carb intake, you’re setting yourself up for trouble as insulin resistance increases toward the end of pregnancy and it gets even HARDER to balance your blood sugar.⁣
⁣⁣
But I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be this way!⁣

If you want to take the fast track to getting results, the quickest way is to learn from those who have been where you are. And I’ve been right where you are.⁣

Which is why I created a free training for you - The 3 Secrets to Avoiding or Supporting Gestational Diabetes Without Meds. In the masterclass I’ll go over:⁣

🌟How to let yourself off the hook so you can STOP feeling guilty and stressed and focus on what matters most - meeting your little one!⁣
🌟A simple way to set yourself up for balanced blood sugar every day without spending hours in the kitchen.⁣
🌟Why the conventional recs don’t work, and the proven steps for balancing your blood sugar without meds.⁣

Reserve your spot here: https://wholenikole.click/live-training⁣

And tell me in the comments - are you going to join the fun? 🎉

Hi, mamas! I’m doing a fun series in my private FB group and thought I would share it here too! Read on for things 1) I really wish I knew before labor or 2) I'm suuuuper glad I did know because it helped a ton.😜 I’m curious, what are some things you wish you knew? Or that really helped? Tell me in the comments below.

Mmmk, let's dive in.

🍯 Honey sticks are amazeballs during labor. Depending on where you give birth and what the policy is, you may or may not be able to eat. I recommend bringing honey sticks! Might sound weird, but TRUST. Labor is a marathon, and once you get into the thick of it you may not want to eat even if you’re allowed to. This was the case with me, but I was able to get a couple honey sticks down and the burst of energy each time made a huge difference. Look for a high quality raw honey. I used ’s honey packets.

🤰 I wish I had more photos from the actual labor/birth. I didn’t think I would care much about this, but now that the birth is a year and a half in the rear view I REALLY wish I had documented it better. Yes my hubby took a few photos right after I delivered my daughter, but I do wish I had more of the actual labor as well as right after delivery. It’s such a beautiful, raw, and powerful moment in time, and I’ve seen some incredibly beautiful birth photography since then. I will definitely plan this into my next birth!

💩 will probably happen, and you’re NOT going to care. Seriously. And neither is anyone else! You may not even notice because your care team has your back and will get it out of there stat. There are SO many other things going on and the only thing that actually does matter is birthing your babe. Poo during delivery is like the last thing you need to stress about FOR REAL.

🏋️‍♀️ You’re going to be SO happy you did all those squats in the months leading up to your labor! I did a ton of leg and butt strengthening, and I was STILL caught off guard by the amount of WERK required during labor.

❄️ Stockpile the super thick hospital pads and make padsicles w/aloe & witch hazel! Nothing feels better after labor than a padsicle. I wish I knew more about how I would feel post-delivery. Every body and every delivery is different, but I wish people talked more about what our bodies go through, and the range of pain, pelvic floor function, etc. to expect in the early days. If you have ?s in this area don't hesitate to reach out! I'm an open book.

Okay that’s all for today - I’ll share more soooon!

I’m BACK with a big announcement...🎉

It’s been quiet on all fronts for the last 8 months because I’ve been hard at work on a BIG project!

I’ll share all the deets with you but FIRST you need the back story. So let’s rewind the clock to July 2018.

I had just been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (GD) and was freaking the eff out. SO many emotions! I was angry at my body for failing me when I needed it the most. I was suuuper embarrassed, even though I had zero reason to be. I was anxious that my plan for an unmedicated birth would be impacted. But most of all I was REALLY scared about the health implications for me AND my babe if I couldn’t keep my blood sugar on point.

And then I met with a dietitian who told me I would need meds without asking me a SINGLE QUESTION about my eating habits or my lifestyle. 🤦‍♀️

And then she went through the “conventional recommendations” with me and told me I wasn’t eating enough carbs. HUH? Hadn’t I just been diagnosed with carb intolerance? 🤔

And then I glanced through the nutrition packet and was even more confused. Margarine!? Low fat dairy? Canola oil? Eek. 😬

But I knew there was a better way.

I spent the next few weeks using my training as a holistic nutritionist and diving into CURRENT research to develop a method to support GD just for me. This method allowed me to have perfectly normal blood sugar WITHOUT MEDS for the rest of my pregnancy, and a birth without any of the complications the doctors scared me about.

That’s when I knew this had to be my MISSION—to make sure no other GD mama had to feel scared or overwhelmed or embarrassed by her diagnosis. And obvi, so they could have access to the same method that worked so well for me. 😊

That’s how the Mama Method for Gestational Diabetes was born...a 3 month personalized support program to help GD mamas stay off meds, reduce the risks of GD, stress less and actually ENJOY the rest of their pregnancy.🤰

Now I get to do the most fun thing of all...share it with YOU! In the upcoming months I’ll share more of my personal journey and things I discovered along the way. So hit me with ALL your GD and blood sugar related questions, stat!😜👇

I will stand with you.

Sharing another favorite snack with you guys today! 🤩 I’m all about having quick and convenient snacks with me lately, so that I never get tooooo hangry and reach for unhealthy, sugary, overly carby food! 🙅‍♀️ Have you tried the new bars from ?? Not only are they delicious, but they’re also made with super quality ingredients. 💯
🌟Hormone and antibiotic free meat (the beef is even grass fed)
🌟Collagen to boost protein
🌟Slightly sweetened with dates (no sugar!)
🌟Did I mention they’re delicious?? My favorites were the herb citrus turkey and cayenne beef 🤤
🌟Loving these bars paired with veggies and hummus for extra nutrients and fiber, but in a pinch these are a pretty well balanced snack on their own as well.
🌈Happy Saturday, Lovelies!!!🌈

Simple healthy snacks are my jam these days, as I’m trying to keep my food routine low maintenance and my blood sugar on point. ✨ I love making things from scratch, but sometimes a mix is so convenient!! is my absolute fave for grain free treats like muffins and crackers—the flavor is 💯 and the ingredients are minimal and REAL. 🙌 I was craving a good muffin this week, so I made their pumpkin muffins + added collagen peptides for extra protein. 🤩😍🤩 So delish! Tell me below:👇👇👇What are your fave brands for healthy pre-made food?? I love trying new products!

🍐 Pears make you poo 🍐 Yep, I said it. Here are a few tips for keeping your bod on the reg, for both preggo and non-preggo folks:🙊
✨Eat a pear (or if you can’t find pears, an apple) every day—SKIN ON. They’re both high in insoluble fiber, but pears specifically contain naturally occurring sorbitol which has a very mild laxative effect.
✨Start the day with a glass of slightly warm lemon water. Lemon water stimulates the digestive system, telling it to “wake up” first thing in the morning. Bonus: many people experience overall improved digestion with this!
✨Stay hydrated throughout the day!! Dehydration is the MOST COMMON cause of irregular elimination, and easy and free to fix! 😋
✨Incorporate prunes into your daily food routine. I know, I know, this is like totally what your grandma used to tell you. 👵 Buuuuut, I actually love the taste of prunes, and they also contain fiber and the natural laxative sorbitol.👌Shoot for 6-7, twice per day.
✨Incorporate regular exercise into your weekly routine. Exercise helps to speed up transit time in your intestines and increases natural peristalsis.
✨If you still need a bit more help, magnesium citrate can be a great occasional supplement to try. Mag citrate pulls water into your intestines, helping to make elimination easier, and it’s super gentle so it won’t send you running for the bathroom. 🏃‍♀️
✨DM me if you have questions—this has been an area I’ve paid especially close attention to since I’ve been pregnant, and since my specialty area is digestive disorders. 😋✌️

HEALTHY choco chip bliss balls are bae right now. 💕💫💕 Keep reading for ingredients 👉
Guys, preggo sugar cravings are no joke!!! As someone who never really craved sweets before being pregnant, it’s been an entirely new challenge to manage. Focusing on has been super important—knowing when to go for that bowl of ice cream and when to reach for something healthier. 🍐 I’ve had to put some extra effort into keeping my blood sugar balanced, and I’ve been trying to keep snacks on hand that satisfy my sweet tooth but still provide nutrients for me and the babe. ✨
Soooo I’ve been making Sweet and Salty Chocolate Chip Energy Balls on the reg and they are SO YUM.
🌈Ingredients include oats and ground flax seed for fiber and omega 3’s, nut butter (I used raw almond) for healthy fat and protein, coconut flakes for more healthy fat, fiber, and nutrient boost, dates for labor support and nutrients, and obvi choco chips bc they’re delish. I’ve been adding a couple extra dates to the recipe for labor support (more on this in another post!) and collagen for gut health and extra love for my linea alba (gotta keep that connective tissue strong💪). Thanks to my girl Blair for keeping my belly happy with delish recipes!!🙏😘😘😘

We grilled our corn instead of using the cast iron pan, and I combo’d chili powder with the cayenne in the recipe. Saturday S T A C K S 🥞🥞🥞 featuring cherries and berries 🍒🍓🍒 What’s your fave pancake stack topper?? I like my cakes Paleo and fresh fruit covered, with a smidge of nut butter and maple syrup. 🤤 I usually make my own mix, but today I tried paleo mix and I have to say I really liked it!! I did use unsweetened almond milk instead of water, and added a touch of cinnamon. But the mix base made perfect pancakes, especially for a paleo mix!😍

What’s one of your most fave foods?Tomatooooes are definitely in my top 5! 🍅😍🍅 Potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits mean that tomatoes support many of our bod’s important systems, including cardio, renal (kidney), hepatic (liver), and even our skin! ✨🌈✨
This snap is from my most favorite meal we had in Greece. Did you know that Santorini is famous for its tomatoes? A special kind grow there that need very little water and taste the sweetest and most decadent of any tomato I’ve ever had. 🤤🤤🤤

Guess what, guys?!? I have 20/20 vision!!! I had a little ICL (intraocular contact lens) surgery last week to correct my vision after YEARS of consideration. Where my super blind friends at?? This is for you. Pre-surgery, my contact prescription was -10.5 (🤦‍♀️🤓). I really never dreamed it would be possible to get rid of my glasses / contacts forever because I’ve never been a LASIK candidate... but holy crap I did it! Completely surreal.✨🌈🦄🌈✨
Soooooo, when you just had eye surgery and your doc says to up the Omega 3’s, you eat allllll the salmon. 😍😍😍 This was pan seared and then baked with a paleo Caesar marinade...side of roasted butternut squash and a kale, rainbow carrot, and grape tomato salad. Noms 😋😋😋
Ps. If you’re in the Denver area and ever considering this procedure, please reach out. Happy to tell you all about my experience at with Dr. Wise. Spoiler alert: it was really good. 🙌
