Juniper Village - The Spearly Center is home to approximately 135 residents and 130 professionals dedicated to providing person-centered, skilled nursing care in a therapeutic community. Those living at Juniper Village - The Spearly Center are primarily people living with chronic mental illness, brain injury or neurological disorders. The Spearly Center provides a holistic approach to care by involving the individual and his/her care team to create a plan of care that addresses the persons physical, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, social occupational, relationship and leisure pursuits toward well-being in each realm of life. Located near the heart of downtown Denver, the community offers four distinct "neighborhoods" within one building to creatively, appropriately and individually meet the various needs of each person who lives there.

Back in the Kitchen: Bobby's Inspiring Recovery

After struggling with limited mobility, Bobby found the support he needed through our PowerBack physical and occupational therapy program at Juniper Village. Through hard work, he not only regained his independence, walking confidently with a cane or walker, but also rediscovered his passion for cooking. In Bobby's words, "Therapy has helped me achieve goals I thought were far gone," proving that determination and the support of the PowerBack team can help achieve great things!

On Tuesday, the Spearly Center had the joy of participating in a Job Fair at McLain Community High School an alternative high school in Lakewood, Colorado. What an incredible day! We connected with more than 20 students interested in career opportunities and were able to shine Spearly’s light on their futures.

We look forward to continuing the conversation through personal interviews and building lasting connections. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Stongle for coordinating such a successful and welcoming event—it truly was an awesome fair!

Every year we host a vaccination clinic for our associates and residents, and this year was another great success!

A big thank you to the King Soopers Pharmacy team for making this clinic possible. Prioritizing the health and well-being of everyone in our community is always our top goal. Events like this help ensure we all stay healthy throughout the coming season.

We are excited to share that we’ve started a new volunteering partnership with CEC Early College in Denver, Colorado!

Through this program, we are welcoming two wonderful volunteers, Ashley and Janeiry, who are part of the Early College medical preparation program. They attend CEC in the mornings and Bruce Randolph School in the evenings, and we are so lucky to have them with us every Thursday from 8:00–10:30 AM through the end of the year.

A little about them:

Ashley loves to bake (especially cookies!), cook, and hike.
Janeiry enjoys spending time with her family, relaxing by the river in Golden, and hiking together.

Both girls are active in extracurriculars, including volleyball.
In just their first two weeks with us, Ashley and Janeiry jumped right in—helping residents with hydration, puzzles and games, creating nail art, and joining in on art projects through our Art in Boxes program with the Denver Art Museum. The best part? After their second week, they didn’t want to leave!

We look forward to getting to know Ashley and Janeiry even more and are excited for the wonderful experiences ahead with our new partnership.

A small group from our community set off on a road trip to the charming mountain town of Nederland, Colorado—and what a day it was!

First stop: the Nederland Carousel of Happiness! We hopped on, took a spin, and laughed until our cheeks hurt while the music played. There’s just something magical about going round and round and round together.

Next, we warmed up at Train Cars Coffee & Kava café right next door with fresh coffee and the most delicious little donut holes you can imagine—still warm and melt-in-your-mouth good!

The ride back home was just as special. We cruised along the Peak to Peak Highway watching the mountains shimmer of aspens in full color. Even with the rain and chilly air, the views were breathtaking.

It was a day filled with laughter, good company, and mountain magic. If you haven’t been, the Carousel of Happiness is a must! Cold and rainy? That doesn’t stop us from making memories and having a beautiful time!

Monthly Birthday Celebrations with Perennial Advantage

Each month, we gather to celebrate resident birthdays with joy, laughter, and plenty of cake. Thanks to our wonderful partnership with Perennial Advantage, these celebrations have become a highlight each month.

Barney James joins us faithfully to help serve cake, sing birthday songs, and pass out drinks. What makes these gatherings extra special is Barney himself—he is attentive, kind, and uplifting. He knows most residents by name, remembers their likes, and always takes the time to share a positive word. His cheerful spirit fills the room and makes every celebration feel warm and personal.

We are so grateful for this thoughtful monthly gift. Thank you to Perennial Advantage and Barney James for making our birthday celebrations truly unforgettable.

In celebration of September’s theme of friendship, our community hosted Hearts That Reach High, a tribute to the peer guardians from WellPower. These dedicated community partners help Spearly residents stretch, grow, and stay connected in everyday life.

The Pinion Patio came alive with fellowship, refreshments, and recognition as residents proudly honored the peer guardians for their commitment. Each guardian received a gift bag, while residents enjoyed the chance to connect, learn more about the program, and even sign up to participate.

It was a win-win celebration—honoring our friends, building new connections, and lifting each other higher.

We are proud to recognize Susie Wheatley as September’s Associate of the Month!

Susie joined the Spearly Center team in January, bringing with her more than 20 years of nursing experience. Since becoming an RN in 2001, she has worked with a variety of populations, but she has found her true niche here at Spearly.

Beyond her professional dedication, Susi brings joy and warmth to those around her. She has a deep love for animals, sharing her home with two kittens and a dog, and she enjoys exploring the world through travel. One of her favorite adventures was visiting the breathtaking Machu Picchu in Peru.

We are so grateful for Susie’s joyful presence, her compassionate care, and her sincere commitment to our residents. Congratulations, Susie, and thank you for all you do.
