A Scoop of Kindness: Celebrating the Heart of Our Work Therapy Program

Our work therapy program plays a meaningful role in the lives of many residents. For individuals who may not have a source of income, it offers a way to earn a weekly paycheck—giving them a sense of independence and the ability to enjoy small pleasures of their choosing. But beyond the financial benefits, the program provides purpose, structure, and connection.

Residents in our program take on a variety of helpful tasks around our community helping keep our community clean, cared for, and thriving. For residents who are very active and enjoy staying busy, it offers a welcomed outlet. For others, especially those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, it fosters a powerful sense of accomplishment and pride.

Our Connections team, along with the work therapy supervisor, supports residents every step of the way, helping tailor tasks to match each person's strengths and abilities.

To celebrate the dedication of our work therapy participants, we recently hosted an event called Scoops of Kindness. Each resident received a personalized certificate, with Pagma sharing kind words about everyone’s contributions. The celebration ended with scoops of ice cream, served in cones or bowls, and plenty of smiles to go around. It was a joyful afternoon—one filled with laughter, pride, and the sweet reward of being seen and appreciated.

Every Friday during the summer, our community comes together for one of the best parts of the week—our themed barbecues!

We kicked things off with a bang on the 4th of July, then launched into outer space, wrangled up some fun at our Western BBQ, tested our knowledge with Trivia Day, and we’re just getting started.

Next up? The Circus is rolling in—with even more exciting themes planned throughout the summer.

These Friday events are more than just great food—they’re a chance for laughter, connection, and a little bit of magic. We invite all families and friends to come join the fun and make some unforgettable memories with us. There’s always a seat at the table—and something sizzling on the grill!

Saturday Sundae Social- Thanks to Choice Hospice!

This past weekend, residents enjoyed a sweet surprise during our Saturday Social—an Ice Cream Sundae Bar generously sponsored by Choice Hospice! Everyone got to build their own sundaes, complete with all the toppings, and the joy was as big as the scoops. Laughter, sprinkles, and smiles filled the room, and it was a true treat for all.

Thank you, Choice Health at Home Hospice, for bringing such a fun and heartwarming experience to our community. Be sure to keep an eye out for our next Ice Cream Social—family and friends are always invited!

The annual Senior Olympics at Spearly Center was a huge success, filled with fun, friendship, and movement!

The week kicked off Monday with high-energy wheelchair races on the Pinion Patio, where residents fiercely competed. Tuesday featured a lively co****le and ring toss showdown, supported by Bristol Hospice who provided healthy veggie platters. On Wednesday, football toss was the main event, with Ovation Hospice keeping spirits high with snacks and root beer. Thursday concluded the games with a popular basketball shootout, generously sponsored by Perennial Advantage with celebratory cake.

Our Art Therapy Program brought the Olympic spirit to life by crafting a beautiful torch and custom medals for our champions, also cheering participants and distributing prizes.

What truly stood out was the joy, encouragement, and camaraderie. Whether competing or cheering, residents showed the true spirit of our strong community.

A huge thank you to all our sponsors and partners who made this a week to remember: Bristol Hospice, Ovation Hospice, Perennial Advantage, and our Art Therapy Program.

Until next year—go Team Spearly!

Something wonderful is happening at our center, and it starts with a book, a curious mind, and a whole lot of heart!

Meet Cole, a bright and thoughtful young man who has been joining us to practice his reading skills.

This isn’t just about words on a page—it’s about connection. As Cole reads, residents light up. They lend a hand when he stumbles on a word, offer guidance on pronunciation, and share stories that bring the text to life in brand-new ways.

For Cole, it’s a chance to build his confidence and grow his reading skills. For residents, it’s a joyful opportunity to teach, listen, laugh, and bond. The smiles and stories that come out of these sessions are something truly special.

Proof that learning—and loving—can go both ways. We’re so grateful to have Cole as part of our community!

We had an absolute blast on our trip to the historic The Bug Theatre to see The Amazing AcroCats! This incredible troupe of trained domestic house cats, all former orphans, rescues, and strays, truly put on a one-of-a-kind "purr-formance."

A huge thank you to Bug Theatre, Andrea Friedlander for her generous donation of tickets, and The Amazing AcroCats of Tuna and The Rock Cats Rescue for a truly unforgettable night.

Juniper Village recently held our biannual Remembrance Service, a cherished tradition where we gathered to honor residents who passed between January and June 2025. This meaningful event is rooted in reflection, connection, and love.

With Bristol Hospice, Pastor Joel led blessings and live music created a reverent atmosphere. A new and moving addition was our Sand Vase Ceremony, where residents and staff collectively added sand to a communal vase, symbolizing our shared memories. This vase will serve as an evolving memorial, growing with each service.

This year's service was also enhanced by a beautiful floral arrangement generously provided by The Perfect Petal Denver.

We're incredibly grateful to all our partners, associates, and residents who helped make this service a truly meaningful tribute to the lives we've lost and the love that remains.
