Hello from just a handful of the 21,000 acupuncturists practicing acupuncture in the United States currently. We wanted to take a moment to let you know…
Today, November 16, 2022, is WORLD ACUPUNCTURE AWARENESS DAY!!
*
In November of 2010, Unesco inscribed acupuncture and moxibustion into the annals of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Acupuncture and Moxa have long been recognized as an incredible form of ā€œalternativeā€ medicine, but for the past 12 years, it has also officially been accepted as part of humanity’s cultural treasures. As medicine continues to evolve from ā€œdisease-centricā€ to ā€œpatient-centricā€ individualized medicine, this heritage demonstrates it’s vital contributions as part of a more integrated medical approach to address human health and wellness.
*
From all those of us who practice Traditional Chinese Medicine, to you, our incredible patients who continue to trust in this medicine, to believe in the work we do, and to spread the word to your friends and family, we thank you. Thank you for supporting us, and for allowing us to help in the pursuit of optimum health and quality of life.
*
Today, we take a moment to stand united as Acupuncturists the world-over, and to commemorate and celebrate our proud profession.

The importance of unplugging is a culturally under-discussed topic. As is the case for most of the western world, where topics such as professions and ambitions almost always put topics like down-time and stay-cations on the back burner, we as a society don’t unplug enough! Whether it’s from work, life responsibilities, family, or even friends, sometimes getting away from it all and having time to bask in the beauty and simplicity that is your solo self can be incredibly healing. Yes, we can love our jobs, we can love our families and friends, and we can love the lives that we’ve created for ourselves that often rev up our internal combustions to the point where we think we may be going a bit crazy… but it’s not just ā€œokay" to prioritize your own zen moments where breath, calmness, and harmony are our primary companions. It's extremely healthy!
*
Various studies have shown that taking time away from electronics and disconnecting from technology can do wonders for our interpersonal relationships and our overall ability to communicate effectively. Unplugging encourages us to connect with those around us in a more meaningful way, and that can hold true with just ourselves as well. Often, time away from screens, and away from the energetic vampires that have become most social media platforms, means a better quality of life in the interim. There are even studies that support the findings that decreased technology use can be linked to better mental health!

When the world seems to overflow with ā€œbreaking news,ā€ when stepping away from the office for more than 20 minutes seems to bring about something catastrophic, THAT’s your signal to plan some down time. Be in nature. Go for a long hike. Find solace in a yoga class. Experiment with a new lunch-time super-food. Listen to an old song that soaks you in nostalgia. Explore a new part of your neighborhood, or the next one over. Write stream of consciousness poetry, or try your hand at a haiku. Revisit a favorite book that always makes you feel good, or discover a new one! There are endless ways to reset and unplug. If you need some guidance, start with self-care. When’s the last time you made some time for YOU?

"Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to they mystery of why
we climb."
- Greg Child
*
We all climb mountains. Some are big, some are small, and some difficult even to see. But make no mistake. We all climb.
*
When the air gets thin, it's important to remember that there is a summit,
there is an end to this particular challenge, and one foot in front of the other will eventually take us there. Keep climbing.

We’re finally in it, friends. The hot, hot summer we’ve experienced here in Denver has finally, thankfully given way to cooler Fall, and it couldn’t have come a moment earlier.
*
As we transition into Fall, Chinese Medicine states that we will start to feel a slower pace and a settling sensation as we come off of a time of abundance, movement, and exuberant energy. Day by day, the crisp, cooler days of Autumn are marked by an amplification of change. Leaves turn colors, schedules shift, and a familiar self-reflective energy starts to turn inward.
*
With the shifts of seasons so prominent lately, it’s important to realize that we too must look to our lifestyles and tune into the changes happening around us.Ā
*
Autumn bring with it less sunlight as the days become shorter. We are slowly moving from Yang Within Yang to Yang within Yin. The change can be felt in more than just the external temperature. The internal temperature of the body also tends to drop a percentage of a degree, and while that sounds minimal, the effects can be profound.
*
In Chinese Medicine theory, Fall relates to the Lung and Large Intestine organ systems. The Lung is tied to the emotion of Grief. The Lung in Chinese Medicine is also referred to as the ā€œdelicate organā€ or the ā€œlidā€ of the organs, as it is the connection between the body and the outside world and can easily be attacked by pathogenic factors.
*
Supporting the body during Autumn requires bolstering our health and the energetics of our Lungs so that we can continue to thrive despite the shift towards Winter. And by continuing to support your health during this season, it creates a stronger vitality that can carry us through the colder months.
*
Have you had your acupuncture lately? šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: The greatest wealth is health.
*
Being in good health is like wearing an invisible crown that can only be seen by those with poorer health. If and when our health starts to deteriorate, we’d likely feel regret, sadness, and despair. Regret that we didn’t do things sooner to preserve it. Sadness as we witness that once-invisible crown being worn by others who perhaps did more to benefit their bodies and minds. Despair that perhaps it’s too late to fix the situation… And although none of us are immortal, the key to living a longer, healthier life is to devote your time and resources towards your state of wellness.
*
PayingĀ attention to our health now will help to offset how much attention we’ll need to give our health in our later years, and although health and wellness should be a lifelong endeavor, what we do and the habits we form in our younger years create patterns for our health later in life.Ā OurĀ eating, exercise, stress levels, as well asĀ ourĀ mentalĀ and emotional healthĀ all combine to determine howĀ healthyĀ we are.
*
Invest in yourself. It’s as simple as that.

It’s been a Hot Hot Summer! And with hot summers, comes hot humans! Feeling a little over this incessant heat wave? Try bringing some TONICS into your life. Maybe a little bit of ??…
*
Yin tonics maintain and improve our deepest reserves of subtle nourishment and soothe or moisten our systems. Yin tonics are typically substances that affect body fluids and provide hydration in conditions of dryness. The juice that resides within the prickly leaf of the aloe plant is one such substance.
*
Aloe is a succulent plant that thrives in hot, arid climates. An evergreen perennial, it originates from the Arabian Peninsula, but grows wild in tropical, semi-tropical, and dry climates around the world. The adult aloe vera plant reaches maturity at about 3-4 years, and can grow as tall as 30 inches, with as many as 21 leaves.
*
Its common name comes from two root words: "aloeh,ā€ an Arabic word meaning ā€˜bitter,’ and "vera,ā€ the Latin word for ā€˜truth.’ The name is surprisingly accurate; the juice of the processed leaf is invigoratingly bitter!
*
Aloe speeds wound healing by improving blood circulation throughout the body. Aloe vera products have been clinically proven to pe*****te three epidermal layers of the skin, increasing white blood cell count, and strengthening the immune system.
*
Taken internally, aloe juice can relieve gastrointestinal disorders and help to maintain a healthy intestinal pH. It may treat indigestion, while promoting a friendly environment for probiotics in the digestive tract. It also helps balance stomach acid naturally, rather than stopping its production. And last but not least, aloe contains cooling properties similar to menthol. Yay for cooler summer days!Ā (For internal use, always seek out commercial, certified organic juice.)

Inside each one of us is an intelligent, energetic system which maintains an ideal balance of wellness. Everything is created from energy, and radiates it outward ever after. This subtle body energy shapes, supports, and brings to life our physical bodies and mobilize our life force.
*
For 3,000 years, practitioners of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine have referred to this intelligent energy as ā€œQiā€ (pronounced ā€˜chee’), however throughout the ages, various cultures and traditions have called it by many names; prana, spirit, ether, baraka, vital energy or vital force being just a handful.
*
At its essence, Qi is a combination of energies created from a mixture of our food air inherited constitution. It provides the power to accomplish many of our every day activities. It is a necessary component for physical growth, movement, maintenance, development, and protection against illness. It vastly dictates regulation of the body, and our overall health is influenced by the quality, quantity and balance of Qi.
*
The modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture, herbs and Tuina (Chinese Medical Massage), have all been designed for centuries to help tonify and strengthen internal Qi. The balance restored internally is amplified externally. Time for a session? Send us a message... šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

Why do we ?

Smudging is an ancient ritual, first established by several indigenous and native tribes, used as a way to purify and cleanse a space. The sage that is often used has antimicrobial properties, which helps to keep infectious bacteria, fungi and viruses at bay.

White prairie sage (Artemisia ludoviciana) is both antimicrobial and antibacterial. White sage (Salvia aping) is also antimicrobial, and both have been shown to repel insects.

Burning sage is also believed to release negative ions, which helps to neutralize positive ions. Positive ions are allergens, such as pollution, pet dander, dust, and mold. Burning sage could thus be beneficial to those suffering from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions.

On a spiritual level, smudging has long been used to connect to a healing state, and dispel negative energy. It is believed that smudging can help to cleanse an environment of bad experiences, past traumas, and negative mindsets. Spaces can be cleansed and purified, along with objects, and individuals.

Sage can be grown organically and harvested sustainably, so if you are interested in buying sage, rather than growing your own, take the time to ensure your sage is being gathered in a way that is in balance with the environment. 🌱

When we think about ... we think about exhibiting the wisdom to know that we should not simply gaze upon the surface of the lake, but to instead search through the murkiness of the muddy waters to see the lotus flower that is rising upwards. People everywhere are walking their paths filled with personal struggles, occasional upheavals, private battles, and complex concerns. Our duty, as individuals dedicated to being compassionate, is to actively seek to perceive the lotus, despite the fact that the waters may be cloudy in this particular instance.
*
Compassion goes beyond sympathy, beyond even empathy. It’s not about feeling pity for someone, or feeling someone’s pain s as if it were our own. Compassion is seeing ourselves, and our own struggles, within others. It is perceiving their pain, and being motivated to alleviate it.
*
When we are compassionate, we teach others compassion. We teach others acceptance. We teach others to hope. And in these uncertain times, hope is really one of the best gifts we can offer.
*
Compassion is contagious. Let’s spread it around. ✨

~ JING ~

Means ā€œessence.ā€ Rhymes with ā€œSpring,ā€ and has a playful connection to this most efflorescent of seasons. In springtime, flowers bloom, trees leaves return, and the birds and the bees... well... they seek to release their Jing in whatever fashion possible.
In Chinese Medicine, Jing is the deep foundational energy reserves of the body. It is this energy that determines one's ultimate vitality and the quantity and quality of one's lifespan.
Jing regulates the body's growth and development, and works with Qi (vital energy) to help protect the body from harmful external factors. A person with an abundance of Jing will most likely be healthy, strong and resilient, and can achieve great longevity.
Conversely, as Jing is depleted, we become more susceptible to disease, degeneration, and death. So what are we to do about depleted Jing? ...... ACUPUNCTURE and HERBS! 🌿
Jing Tonics (herbs that tonify Essence) nourish the root of our systems. Acupuncture can significantly harmonize the body so as to reduce or prevent the leaking-out of Jing, and allow the body to restore Jing with tonic food and herbs.
Jing tonics include: nettle, wheatgrass, Chinese ginseng, artichoke leaf, pollen, and MICRO-ALGAE.

Feeling depleted? Come on in for a session today, and talk to your practitioner about getting on the right herbal formula for you!

For us, Mother’s Day isn’t just about acknowledging those who have birthed children. Sure, we include and heartily applaud all the moms in the world who do their best every single day (you da REAL MVPs!)...
*
But for us, this day is an opportunity and yearly reminder to celebrate those who have raised us; from mothers to fathers, biological or otherwise, human or otherwise (where my dog-moms at??), aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas, elder siblings, brothers and sisters-from-another-misters, teachers, counselors, guides...
*
Today, we recognize, revere, and honor those who have helped to parent, to educate, to act as forerunners to the strong individuals that we eventually became. To say we couldn’t have turned out as we did without you is an understatement. We commend your courage to take on the dauntingly intimidating task of rearing another individual, and give ovation to the fact that you were able to put our needs above your fears. Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you. šŸ™šŸ¼ šŸ’œ ā¤ļø šŸ’›
