I traveled 4 hrs by plane to Boston; 2 hrs by car to Portland, ME and an hour+ to Kittery, ME to run for 4:08hrs to Hampton Beach, NH this weekend.

Things I learned (aka things I ignored & became evident during 20 miles of movement):

- consistent running is much more helpful when preparing for long distance races (we know & we listened to our body)

- consistency with mobility improves muscular control (my hip really screamed leading to a run-walk method for the last 8 miles)

- talk to people on the course & it helps you both get through milage 💪🏼

- having someone to meet up with at the finish makes it so much more rewarding 🥰

- 20 miles is a HUGE jump from 13.1 (half marathon)

The most amount of control we have is over ourselves & yet the first thing we let go during stressful situations or seasons is our health.

It doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing” habit. Could be as easy as dedicating 5 mins to breathe, tap, feel sunshine, etc before looking at your phone or helping someone else.

January brings on motivation & ambition unlike any other month. Yet quickly life resumes from the slowed down holiday season & all those goals, new routines and habits fall away.

It may start slow - sleeping in one morning rather than getting up for your morning routine, workout, etc.

A year ago I was told that I had a doctorate & it was time to ACT LIKE IT.

I’m continuing to learn what that means for me & The Persistence Project. We learn a little more everyday.

Chronic pain is what led me to physical therapy school & I have “cured” myself. It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t quick. Yet it’s been FIVE YEARS since I have had that pain for more than a few minutes-day.

Knowledge IS power when we understand HOW to USE it.

Without our health we are literally unable to take on anything besides the essentials. Which is why so many of the individuals I work with dealing with chronic conditions tap into mindfulness practices.

Maybe it sounds “woo” but really it’s a fundamental part of who we are as humans that we spend all our energy disconnecting from it… which ultimately can increase our risk of illness, injury, chronic lifestyle conditions 👀
