When Mike Bukowski suffered a stroke at work, everything happened fast. His coworkers noticed the signs immediately, called 911 and helped keep him safe until the UCHealth Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit arrived. Within minutes, the specialized team was treating Mike right there in the parking lot, giving him a clot-busting drug before he even reached the hospital.

That rapid response made all the difference. After arriving at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, Mike underwent a thrombectomy to remove the clot from his brain. In the hours that followed, he slowly regained movement and speech, even writing reassuring notes to his family from the hospital bed. “I’m going to be 100 percent. Don’t worry,” he wrote.

Today, Mike is back at work, back with his family and back to cheering on his beloved Colorado College hockey team. His story is a powerful reminder that when stroke symptoms appear, every second matters. Fast action from coworkers, first responders and stroke specialists helped give Mike the outcome every family hopes for: a full recovery.

Colorado Springs stroke care teams in the Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit start critical treatment immediately and get patients to the hospital fast.
