As CMO, Dr. Johnston will continue to guide our efforts to strengthen clinical excellence, support quality and safety initiatives, promote high-quality, evidence-based care, and ensure regulatory readiness throughout Colorado, Kansas, and Utah. Kristie Pelletieri never expected a ski accident could turn into a life-threatening emergency.

After collapsing at home from a pulmonary embolism, she experienced two cardiac arrests. Thanks to fast CPR and EMS, Kristie received specialized care at St. Anthony Hospital. The care team used ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), a form of life support that provides critical respiratory and cardiac support. ECMO serves as a temporary replacement for the heart and/or lungs, giving time for those organs to heal while allowing the care team to consider and implement next steps in the treatment plan.

Today, Kristie is at home, recovering and deeply grateful for every moment.
