A counseling internship at The Mariposa Center is a supervised, hands-on clinical position for graduate students, which requires a 12-month commitment and 20–25 hours per week, with roughly 60% focused on direct client care.

Interns provide Creative Arts and counseling for individuals and groups, conduct assessments, and develop treatment plans while receiving regular, mandatory supervision from a licensed professional counselor.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Direct Clinical Services: Providing counseling to children, adolescents, or adults in-person or via telehealth.
Assessment and Treatment: Conducting intake interviews, diagnostic assessments, and developing treatment plans.
Case Management: Maintaining confidential, accurate, and timely electronic clinical documentation and progress notes.
Supervision and Training: Attending weekly individual and group supervision, case consultations, and professional development training.
Collaboration: Working with multidisciplinary teams, including case managers, physicians, and/or school staff

Announcing our upcoming Art Therapy group, coming this summer! This group supports teachers who are, or are close to experiencing burnout.

Created and facilitated by a former art teacher, who is now training as an Art Therapist.

Grounded in Trauma Stewardship by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky, this group offers a space for restoration through artmaking.

"I have the honor and privilege of watching my clients grow, mature, and
navigate some very complex challenges today."

"Pippi Longstocking- She is amazingly independent and creative and I imagine quite lonely."

What's a book you have read more than once?
"The Whole Brain Child by Daniel Siegel"

What is a small everyday ritual that makes a big difference for you?
"I practice some type of movement every day- dance, climbing, aerial arts,
acrobatics, or hiking."

What hobby or interest do you have outside of therapy?
"I enjoy rock climbing and performing with my circus company."

What is the most rewarding part about being a therapist at Mariposa?
Getting to work alongside and be supported by amazing therapists as I start my new journey here. I look forward to starting to work with clients here!

Which superhero/movie character would you want to have as a client?
I would love to work with Wanda Maximoff (The Scarlet Witch).

What's a book you have read more than once?
The Power of Ritual: Turning Everyday Activities Into Soulful Practices by Casper ter Kuile, and The Harry Potter Series!

What is a small everyday ritual that makes a big difference for you?
Making my bed in the morning! This helps remind me to slow down and ease into the day.

What hobby or interest do you have outside of therapy?
I love to hike, listen to Folklore by Taylor Swift, go to dance class, and watch Love Island (UK version, of course).

"My goodnight routine with my husband and little girl; saying our poem, talking about a time in the day we got frustrated and what we did to feel calm again, and our prayers."

What hobby or interest do you have outside of therapy?
"Cooking and baking with my 2-and-a-half-year-old...it's a joyous mess! I also love traveling, singing, and dancing."
