Colorado Community Health Network

Colorado Community Health Network Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN) is the unified voice for Colorado’s 20 Community Health C

Since its inception in 1982, CCHN has made significant strides in ensuring that Colorado's low-income residents have access to affordable, high-quality primary health care. CCHN is committed to 1) educating policy makers and stakeholders about the unique needs of Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their patients, 2) providing resources to ensure that CHCs are strong organizations, and 3) supporting CHCs in maintaining the highest quality care.

Medicaid is foundational to Colorado's health care system, and for Community Health Centers which serve almost a third of Colorado’s Medicaid enrollees. CCHN joins Save Our Safety Net Coalition partners in welcoming Gretchen Hammer to lead the department that runs Medicaid in Colorado: Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF). Community Health Centers are rooted in the United Farmworkers Movement. CCHN has been publicly honoring this legacy through the celebration of Cesar Chavez Day on March 31 for many years. This is changing.

We at CCHN believe, support, and honor the victims and survivors of sexual abuse from Chavez. Read CCHN’s full statement on the matter: https://cchn.org/cchn-news-releases/

Colorado Community Health Network is proud to be part of Save Our Safety Net, a coalition celebrating the early success of Colorado’s Provider Stabilization Fund. Over $38 million in grants have already supported 56 health care providers across rural, suburban and urban communities – including all 21 Community Health Centers (CHCs).

These dollars are critical for safety net providers, including CHCs, who have been struggling with the cost of medical inflation, reduced Medicaid revenue, increased cost of staff recruitment and retention, and the impact caring for more uninsured Coloradans.

We hope to see additional sustainable funding to help the safety net maintain access to affordable care.

Today, Colorado Community Health Center (CHC) staff and patient board members had about 50 meetings with legislators at the Colorado State Capitol to talk about the importance of protecting and investing in primary care. We are proud to advocate on behalf of the more than 850,000 Coloradans (1 in 7) who access integrated medical, dental, and behavioral health care at Community Health Centers.

CCHN’s annual Policy and Issues Forum kicked off yesterday with a panel of experienced Community Health Center (CHC) staff to share advice, stories, and motivation for advocating with the state legislature today. Thank you to our panelists for sharing your wisdom, motivating us on the power of persistence, and helping keep the communities we serve at the center of our work.

To wrap up the day, CCHN had the sincere honor of presenting awards to individuals who have made lasting impact on the Community Health Center movement in Colorado. These awardees have gone above and beyond to support their organizations, peers, patients, and communities in access to affordable, high-quality primary care. Please join us in celebrating these incredible awardees for their above-and-beyond dedication, innovation, and accomplishments.

Yesterday, Colorado’s Community Health Center staff, patients, and advocates joined others from across the country to discuss the importance of investing in high-quality primary care for our rural, urban, and frontier communities with our Senators and Representatives in Congress.
We appreciated the thoughtful conversations, support, and big smiles throughout the day, and the opportunity to share the value that Colorado’s Community Health Centers offer their local communities. Together, they provide integrated medical, behavioral health, and dental care to 1 in 7 Coloradans, including half of all uninsured Coloradans, and a quarter of the state’s Medicaid enrollees.

“Medicaid is a commitment we’ve made to one another, not a burden. To address Colorado’s budget crisis, we must shift our focus to the real culprit behind our budget issues.”

Thank you, Lydia McCoy, CEO of Colorado Center on Law and Policy for giving a broader perspective on Colorado’s budget crisis, and defending Medicaid for the Coloradans who rely on it most.

Medicaid is not a burden. To address Colorado’s budget crisis, we must shift our focus to the real culprit behind our budget issues.

CCHN is proud to participate in a coalition of hospitals, physicians, health plans, behavioral-health providers, rural leaders and consumer advocates in Colorado who are working together to provide a clear message about the future of health care in our state: “we must move toward a model built on collaboration, transparency, and shared responsibility.”

Two of the coalitions’ members, Jeff Tieman at the Colorado Hospital Association and Julie Reiskin at the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, wrote an op-ed in Colorado Politics outlining some of our concerns:

By Jeff Tieman and Julie Reiskin Colorado is careening toward a health care disaster, and unless we change course now, too many of our neighbors will bear the cost — in dollars, in well-being and in lives. Colorado’s health care system isn’t just dysfunctional, it’s teetering on collapse. In...

In the past few years, Community Health Centers saw a 29% increase of uninsured patients, despite statewide data that shows the number of uninsured Coloradans has stayed statistically steady.
