Colorado Community Health Network

Colorado Community Health Network Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN) is the unified voice for Colorado’s 20 Community Health C

Since its inception in 1982, CCHN has made significant strides in ensuring that Colorado's low-income residents have access to affordable, high-quality primary health care. CCHN is committed to 1) educating policy makers and stakeholders about the unique needs of Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their patients, 2) providing resources to ensure that CHCs are strong organizations, and 3) supporting CHCs in maintaining the highest quality care.

As a member of the Mind Our Future coalition, CCHN staff attended a forum for several candidates who are running for Governor hosted by Children’s Hospital Colorado and Healthier Colorado. The Mind Our Future Campaign is an initiative bringing attention and priority to the youth mental health crisis.

Each of the candidates spoke of their commitment to Colorado kids and offered their ideas to address the crucial issue of youth mental health if they become governor.

“Colorado’s health care is not a political talking point — it is about people. It is a patient at a Community Health Center receiving affordable care from a team who knows their history. It is a family that can afford to take a sick child to the doctor rather than wait and hope.”

Ross Brooks, CEO of Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN), and Beverly Razon, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at COPIC Companies, co-authored an op-ed in Colorado Politics highlighting the issues currently facing our health care system, and calling on the state government and other partners to collaborate on patient-centered solutions.

CCHN and Copic are both members of the Colorado Health Policy Forum, a coalition of consumer advocates, safety net providers, hospitals, health plans, and physicians.

By Ross Brooks and Beverly Razon Last December, a broad coalition of consumer advocates, safety net providers, hospitals, health plans and physicians statewide published a warning: our state was facing a health care crisis, and fragmented policymaking would make it harder to solve. When a patient walks through the doors of a Community Health Center, they are seen as a “whole person” not just for the complaint they came in with. This means that doctors, therapists, and dentists are all working together to make sure their patients are healthy and set up to thrive. This is called integrated care.

On Wednesday, Community Health Center clinicians and leaders from across Colorado met to talk about innovative practices, engage in creative problem solving, and highlight the meaningful patient outcomes of integrated care.

Special gratitude to those who presented and shared your stories.

Did you know that Community Health Centers (CHCs) in Colorado offer robust maternal health care? CHCs, who serve about one in seven Coloradans, are located in every part of the state – filling the widening gaps in maternal health care, especially in rural areas.

Yesterday, CHCs met to share innovations and swap ideas about maternal health care in Colorado. Special gratitude to CHC staff who shared their stories, and Steve Holloway, Director of the Primary Care Office and Health Access Branch Chief at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, for joining us to share data on maternal care adequacy.

Sincere gratitude to Dr. Asad Bandealy, Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Office of Quality Improvement at the Bureau of Primary Health Care under the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for joining us on a tour of Peak Vista Community Health Centers yesterday.

We value your partnership, curiosity, and willingness for creative problem solving. We were proud to introduce you to some of the nurses, providers, dentists, administrative staff, and care coordinators who, together, make Community Health Centers such a unique model for high-quality, integrated primary care.

We’re proud to partner with Health Career Connection (HCC) to grow the next generation of Colorado’s health leaders. HCC is an organization building pathways for emerging health leaders and connecting them to meaningful careers in community health.

Together, we’re investing in people, strengthening Community Health Centers, and expanding access to care across Colorado. Partner with HCC and become an internship host organization by April 29th.

Medicaid is foundational to Colorado's health care system, and for Community Health Centers which serve almost a third of Colorado’s Medicaid enrollees. CCHN joins Save Our Safety Net Coalition partners in welcoming Gretchen Hammer to lead the department that runs Medicaid in Colorado: Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF). Community Health Centers are rooted in the United Farmworkers Movement. CCHN has been publicly honoring this legacy through the celebration of Cesar Chavez Day on March 31 for many years. This is changing.

We at CCHN believe, support, and honor the victims and survivors of sexual abuse from Chavez. Read CCHN’s full statement on the matter: https://cchn.org/cchn-news-releases/

Colorado Community Health Network is proud to be part of Save Our Safety Net, a coalition celebrating the early success of Colorado’s Provider Stabilization Fund. Over $38 million in grants have already supported 56 health care providers across rural, suburban and urban communities – including all 21 Community Health Centers (CHCs).

These dollars are critical for safety net providers, including CHCs, who have been struggling with the cost of medical inflation, reduced Medicaid revenue, increased cost of staff recruitment and retention, and the impact caring for more uninsured Coloradans.

We hope to see additional sustainable funding to help the safety net maintain access to affordable care.

Today, Colorado Community Health Center (CHC) staff and patient board members had about 50 meetings with legislators at the Colorado State Capitol to talk about the importance of protecting and investing in primary care. We are proud to advocate on behalf of the more than 850,000 Coloradans (1 in 7) who access integrated medical, dental, and behavioral health care at Community Health Centers.
