Colorado Community Health Network is excited to award ten state legislators for their work in advancing Community Health Center priorities in the 2025 legislative session. These awards will be offered at CHCs throughout the summer.

Last week, at PrimeHealth+ formerly MarillacHealth, we were honored to present Representative Rick Taggart and Senator Janice Rich with a Community Health Center Supporter Award for their leadership in passing SB25-071. This bill safeguards CHCs' ability to continue providing discounted medications to our patients by protecting against discriminatory pharmaceutical manufacturer practices.

We thank the legislators for their support of the mission of CHCs to provide accessible, high quality health care.

Colorado Community Health Network is excited to award ten state legislators for their work in advancing Community Health Center priorities in the 2025 legislative session. These awards will be offered at CHCs throughout the summer.

Recently, at Clinica Family Health and Wellness, alongside Salud Family Health, we were honored to present Senator Kyle Mullica with a Community Health Center Champion Award for his leadership in advocating to protect and invest in Colorado's health care safety net through SB25-290. This bill creates the new Provider Stabilization Fund, which will help Community Health Centers and safety net providers across Colorado weather the storm of the current financial crisis until longer-term solutions can be created.

We further thank the legislator for his advocacy to increase funding to the Primary Care Fund, which ensured that the legislature would take action to help protect and invest in CHCs.

We are grateful for Sen. Kyle Mullica's support of the mission of CHCs to provide accessible, high quality health care.

Join us in congratulating An Nguyen, Chief Dental Officer, Clinica Family Health and Wellness for being selected for the National Association of Community Health Centers 2025 Samuel U. Rodgers Achievement Award at the CHI in Chicago. CCHN is proud to have led this nomination for such a deserving awardee.

This award is presented to a clinician who exemplifies excellence in clinical practice and leadership at the local, state, or national level. Dr. Nguyen does all three.

In her nomination, Simon Smith, CEO of Clinica Family Health & Wellness shared “Dr. Nguyen consistently applies a patient-centered, public health, and prevention focused approach to oral health. She drives our dental practice, and the industry, towards more quality and outcome-oriented work. A relentless advocate of integration, An’s common refrain of “put the mouth back in the body” helps Clinica to deepen clinical linkages across oral health, physical health, and mental health care within our system and the broader community.”

The Colorado State Legislature is convening for a Special Session over the next few days to address some of the statewide budget impacts of H.R. 1. Stephanie Brooks, CCHN’s Policy Director, testified in support of two bills that will help vulnerable Coloradans maintain access to primary care:

SB25B-002: Supports primary care providers who are newly ineligible for federal funds.
HB25B-1006: Helps a significant number of Coloradans maintain health insurance coverage.

With these bills being heard in committee today, we appreciate the legislature’s understanding of how investing in the health care system is beneficial for the health of Colorado’s people and economy.

Last weekend, the CCHN team joined Community Health Center staff and advocates from across the country to participate in the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) Community Health Institute (CHI) and Expo in Chicago.

We reunited with colleagues, shared best practices in patient care, discussed policy strategy, and met with national leaders.

Our special gratitude to Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), HHS Administrator Tom Engels; BPHC Administrator Jim Macrae; NACHC CEO Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP; and HRSA Rural Health Administrator Tom Morris for highlighting the crucial work of CHCs and taking the time to meet with Colorado’s CHC leaders.

We appreciate the time to together, and draw on each other for renewed energy towards our end goal: access to health as a right, not a privilege.
