The Eating Disorder Foundation

The Eating Disorder Foundation Nonprofit providing free, non-clinical peer-support services to those impacted by eating disorders

Support groups: Our support groups are at the heart of the EDF program, providing safe places for those with eating disorders and their families to grow and to learn from one another. EDF’s support groups are offered on a drop-in basis and are free of charge. These groups not only have helped many who are touched by eating disorders, but also have served as a springboard from which lasting, supportive friendships have grown. Education and outreach: EDF’s efforts include age-specific presentations about body image and eating disorders given free of charge to schools and community organizations throughout Colorado. We exhibit at professional conferences and health fairs for school nurses, counselors, and coaches associations, to name a few. EDF also hosts networking & educational events for eating disorder treatment professionals in the community as a way for these dedicated professionals to connect to their peers, share resources and expertise. Mentorship: Our mentorship program matches qualified mentors with someone who is in need of a little extra help on their path to recovery. EDF mentors provide one-on-one support and act as a role model to their mentee, while encouraging recovery by using healthy coping strategies.

Another plug for our sponsor, Kate Daigle Counseling, MA, LPC, CEDS, who possesses a particular focus that many people need during certain phases of life, especially when in recovery from an eating disorder. Address themes of guilt, shame, loss, pressure for perfection, gaps in support, and more that often affect people with a history of eating disorders. Don't let your struggles stay invisible, and work with an expert.

In 2020, during the height of COVID, 30.2% of EDF’s support group members lived in low income households. That number has steadily increased, to 33.9% in 2025.

Right now, many of our community members are struggling—some have lost jobs, some have seen their SNAP benefits cut, and many are facing impossible choices between food, housing, and health.

Food insecurity doesn’t just mean hunger — it can worsen or even cause eating disorders. That’s why free, accessible recovery support matters so much right now. We’re working to be a key part of the support system members of the community can turn to in facing these barriers.

We know things might feel uncertain — maybe you’re dealing with stress about putting food on the table, the government shutdown, mental health struggles or just life feeling heavy. Whatever it is, please know that you are not alone in this. Take a deep breath. Be gentle with yourself. Rest when you need to, and remember that your worth isn’t defined by your struggles or your circumstances. You are loved, you are needed, and the world is better with you in it.

This month, we’ve been sharing stories from our members about their recovery and the impact of EDF - but you may be curious about how EDF actually served these folks. Or you may be wondering how EDF can help with your own journey or that of your loved one. Here’s a brief refresher on all the services EDF offers to the community, completely free of charge. Next time, we’ll be sharing a bit more about who we serve and what our membership looks like.
