The Eating Disorder Foundation

The Eating Disorder Foundation Nonprofit providing free, non-clinical peer-support services to those impacted by eating disorders

Support groups: Our support groups are at the heart of the EDF program, providing safe places for those with eating disorders and their families to grow and to learn from one another. EDF’s support groups are offered on a drop-in basis and are free of charge. These groups not only have helped many who are touched by eating disorders, but also have served as a springboard from which lasting, supportive friendships have grown. Education and outreach: EDF’s efforts include age-specific presentations about body image and eating disorders given free of charge to schools and community organizations throughout Colorado. We exhibit at professional conferences and health fairs for school nurses, counselors, and coaches associations, to name a few. EDF also hosts networking & educational events for eating disorder treatment professionals in the community as a way for these dedicated professionals to connect to their peers, share resources and expertise. Mentorship: Our mentorship program matches qualified mentors with someone who is in need of a little extra help on their path to recovery. EDF mentors provide one-on-one support and act as a role model to their mentee, while encouraging recovery by using healthy coping strategies.

Did you know?
35.5% of our members identify as neurodivergent.

If that's you, we hope you'll join us at our next Monthly Connections for Neurodivergent Folx on April 29th!

When our brains process, learn, or experience the world differently from what’s considered “typical,” it often appears in the way we feed ourselves and experience just living in a body. Eating disorders and neurodivergence often intersect because they share underlying patterns in how people experience their bodies, emotions, and environment. It’s less about one “causing” the other, and more about overlapping traits and risk factors.

Did you know that 12.4% of our members identify as trans+ or nonbinary?

You are not alone. In fact, the trans+ community experiences some of the highest risk for eating disorders of any demographic.

Trans and gender-diverse people experience eating disorders at disproportionately high rates, often shaped by unique pressures around body image, identity, and safety. For many, disordered eating can be intertwined with gender dysphoria—either as a way to suppress or alter physical characteristics, or to cope with distress in a world that frequently misunderstands and stigmatizes trans bodies. Barriers to affirming, competent healthcare can make it harder to access support, while experiences of discrimination, isolation, and trauma further increase risk.
In the broader 2025 political landscape, heightened targeting of LGBTQ+ and trans communities has compounded stress for many of our members and created additional barriers to affirming healthcare.

At the same time, trans communities show immense resilience, and affirming care—especially care that respects gender identity—plays a critical role in healing and recovery.

All services at EDF are gender- and sexuality-affirming. We are a safe place for trans+ folks to get support and a sense of community. Learn more at eatingdisorderfoundation.org

Hey Colorado - this we wanted to highlight a program that has openings RIGHT NOW for people to get accessible outpatient therapy, online or in person, for as little as $10 a session.

In late 2024, our Accessible Care for EveryBody (ACE) program began accepting clients. In 2025, 24 clients started services with Ardent Grove professionals who we train to provide competent outpatient care for eating disorders.

The program currently has available sliding-scale spots as well as Medicaid and insurance availability.

Discover the support you deserve - fill out an inquiry form on our website or via our partners at Ardent Grove https://ardentgrove.org/eating-disorder-therapy-1

Did you know that there are 123 wooden birdhouses and birdhouse-themed pieces of art in EDF's office? These were inspired by our office renovation in 2011, when the architectural drawings resembled a birdhouse. With the theme "A Place of Our Own," our birdhouse motif reminds us that community is where people in recovery can find safety, refuge, and a sense of belonging. Join us at Thursday's Art for a Cause open house to create some new art of our own as we decorate a few new birdhouses for the office!
