On Neuroplasticity in regards to the Gyrotonic Method of movement:

Nowhere is this truth better reflected than in the sense of well-being felt after a Gyrotonic session. This shift is often difficult to describe in words as it is an experience. Sometimes words are used like “feeling lighter, feeling more grounded or feeling freer.” Sometimes, it’s expressed as a more spiritual sensation of well-being. I believe the only way to define it scientifically is through a pervasive neuroplastic shift.

Master Trainer Angela Crowley shares the fundamental properties of neuroplasticity and how The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is uniquely conducive to positive neuroplastic change.

Re-posting here since my client list doesn't cover family and friends. My hope here is just to simply stay connected.

Life right now feels uncertain, scary, unpredictable, contradictory and maybe even chaotic. We are living through this pandemic of massive proportions that has touched all corners of the world. Many things don't feel familiar. Not only is our health individually and collectively feeling threatened but so is our economy and everything that falls under that.

But we succeed by growing out of chaos. We learn through distress and challenge, adversity and obstacles. I've been trying to nurture a sourdough starter and learn the nuances of a successful loaf of bread. When it's fed, it's disturbed and agitated. Then it needs rest. Add flour, salt and water, mix and rest. Knead and rest, knead and rest. The kneading and resting takes place many times before it is prepared for the oven. See the pattern here? Not much different from the theory of exercise and rest. Growth happens because adversity happens.

Nature is our greatest teacher. A sapling is born out of soil that once was the parts of another tree, degraded to a soft loamy bed of anticipation. We are babies born with no immune system, and out of exploration, touching and putting anything and everything into our mouths we grow strong and healthy. What may seem unfortunate or unhealthy, the death of a tree, the germ covered legos in the mouth, are in essence what is needed to survive.

Let us not loose hope, embrace the chaos, use this Great Pause to our advantage and maybe even rise, mature, develop and become.

I very much look forward to seeing you when it feels safe. I'm playing this day by day, like most of you, and am hopeful we can work together again soon. Send me a note, let me know how you are, how are you meeting this chaos, this adversity, what is life like for you these days? Take good care in staying well.
In trust,
Anna

This was a post I sent out to all my clients, thought I would share it here too.

Where to begin!? My, how things have changed and change every day! Most of us have been under Stay-At-Home orders now for a few weeks. All non-essential businesses were mandated to shut down. We've been advised to only go out when necessary and only for the essentials. Clearly, this has been challenging for us all.

I can't help but notice that we have been stripped of many daily distractions and don't have the demand to maintain the pace of life we were used to B.C. (Before Covid-19). Many of us have been forced to be isolated, quiet, still and surrender what we thought we knew as important or necessary. We are entering the land of the unknown.

Here, in my new office (you like?), I take the time to reflect on my chosen career path, what's important to me, why it's important and get creative. As deemed a "non-essential" business I feel vulnerable. I feel at a loss not to be able to provide what I know how to provide; inquisitive, thought provoking, caring, listening touch, mindful movement and personal one-on-one exercise. As a community, society, state, nation and world, we are being asked not to get too close to one another.

How has this affected you, your children, your families and your friends? It seems to me as though it permeates every aspect of life. We can't let our kids go to school, shake our neighbors hand, give our friends a hug, kiss our loved ones in nursing homes and be with the people we enjoy... or even go to work. This is some of the most trying times in recent history and it's all about contact, and it is essential.

Contact is what I do. It's what I've studied and what I know and hopefully do best. It means touch, connection, communication. It is an honor and brings great pleasure to help my fellow humans reduce a painful experience, live more comfortably physically and generally live a more fulfilling, meaningful, enjoyable and better life, to go out and do you the best you can.

When the world starts to come back to life I can't think of a better, more essential thing than to get back to work (!) and touch, connect, communicate again. If you feel inclined, I'd love to hear from you!

Until then, take good care of yourselves and your families.

Anna
