We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. We are successful when the youth, families, and communities we work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.

Colorado Gives Day is The GrowHaus’ biggest fundraiser of the year. The success of our Colorado Gives Day Campaign helps establish programmatic budgets and determine the number of people we will be able to serve in the year ahead. This year, we have an ambitious goal to raise $70,000, and our most committed supporters are matching donations for the first 200 donations!

Every week, The GrowHaus’ Promotoras develop an approachable recipe to share with the participants of our no-cost food access program. By highlighting produce that participants will receive from The GrowHaus, these recipes aim to introduce new ways to use ingredients and inspire community members to try unfamiliar items.
Once a nutritious recipe has been researched and developed, our Promotoras offer samples at Zumba classes or during pickup hours of the food access program. Beyond offering a chance to taste a new dish, these sample sessions create an opportunity for Promotoras to spark conversation, collect feedback, and deepen community connections.

On , we’re highlighting the shared learning, community connection, and delicious food created in our diabetes prevention classes!
The GrowHaus’ Community Wellness team is leading a holiday edition of our diabetes nutrition workshop series, which explores ways to care for ourselves and our loved ones this season through mindful eating, hydration, movement, and setting SMART goals.
Participants try hands-on recipes like diabetes-friendly apple pie tarts, which swap added sugars for the natural sweetness of seasonal fruit, and share their own tips for navigating holiday eating with care.

We are honored to continue our partnership with Paralel Technologies! Over the past two years, Paralel has been a steadfast partner to The GrowHaus, showing up to volunteer days, attending events, and providing critical funds to support our food access, wellness, and leadership programs. 

Today, we welcomed the Paralel team into our humble warehouse. Working with the Paralel team feels like working with our neighbors. Their team jumped into the packing line and packaged over 7,000 pounds of fresh produce that will be distributed to 14 different library branches across the City of Denver. Together, we prepared healthy recipes that we shared with community members as they came to pick up their groceries, and we packed 200 soup and breakfast kits to distribute during our temporary emergency food assistance program this week.  

We’re honored to partner with the Paralel team and grateful for their commitment to community-led food justice. Of course, we ended the morning of hard work with homemade tamales and cervezas from a local brewery. Amidst a time of great injustice, today was a joyful day.

SNAP benefits will not be reinstated as usual.

Beginning this month, new work and eligibility requirements mean roughly 27,000 people in Colorado will lose their SNAP benefits overnight.

When we see headlines that SNAP dollars are coming, that does not mean the food crisis is over.

Our neighbors who relied on food assistance will have to search for a limited supply of charitable food and grapple with the unusually high cost of groceries.
The GrowHaus will continue supporting these households with our ongoing food access programs, providing fresh fruits and vegetables that bring moments of connection to our homes.

Over 350 households have now registered for The GrowHaus Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program distributions at our Park Hill warehouse, and next week we will begin additional satellite distributions in partnership with GES Coalition and Thriving Families, with more being added as resources become available. During times of extreme injustice, joy is a form of resistance. At today’s emergency food distribution, The GrowHaus’ team had the honor of supporting hundreds of beautiful, vibrant neighbors of all sorts of backgrounds. Faithful to our vibe, we slowed things down enough to get to know our new friends, share recipes, sample new fruits and veggies, and yes, play with our food.

As SNAP benefits are reinstated, the food crisis will not suddenly disappear. Unfortunately, when attention shifts away from food insecurity, the public discussion usually fades, even though the need keeps rising.

SNAP benefits will not be reinstated as usual, and not everyone will have access immediately. New federal rules may also remove about 2.4 million people from the program, reduce benefits for others, or make it harder to qualify because of expanded work and eligibility requirements. In Colorado, roughly 27,000 people are estimated to lose their SNAP benefits overnight.

As you follow reports in the coming days, please also stay connected to the community-driven organizations, who can speak to what is happening in our neighborhoods, beyond the pace of the news cycle. We will continue to support our neighbors dealing with the ripple effects of the loss of access, and those who were already facing food insecurity long before the shutdown.

The food insecurity crisis existed long before last week.

While our temporary emergency food assistance program meets a critical need during the government shutdown, The GrowHaus’ ongoing food access efforts continue to bridge the nutrition gap and provide reliable access to fresh food for 7,000 neighbors across Denver.

Neighbors are picking up fresh food, curated by The GrowHaus, while visiting their local Denver Public Library, picking up children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, or on the way out from a doctor’s visit from Tepeyac Community Health Center. Our convenient 21 food access sites bring nutrition into neighborhoods with disproportionately high rates of food insecurity, providing neighbors with a reliable source of fresh food to set their tables each week.

Please remember, hunger will not disappear when the news cycle moves on. It requires steady attention from all of us until it no longer existe

“The government shutdown has suddenly placed SNAP and food insecurity into the headlines, but this crisis has been unfolding in our communities long before last week.

When the spotlight moves away from food insecurity, the public conversation often turns off, even though the need is still growing.

If you have not already taken action, we encourage you to support our efforts today. In the past 48 hours, more than 100 additional households have signed up for our emergency food program, and the requests continue to rise each day.

Hunger does not disappear when the news cycle moves on. It requires steady attention from all of us until it no longer exists.”
