A follow-up to my “Let’s Get Salty” post from a while back, here is my quick reference for electrolyte protocol for horses in hard work and sweating heavily. This is created with endurance horses, eventers, and hard working ranch horses in mind!

By ensuring the horses have electrolytes on board prior to the event, increased during competition, and during recovery post-event, we can make sure our horses are optimally hydrated throughout.

Hay probe appreciation. She’s simple but the Penn State probe from EquiAnalytical has been worth her weight in gold for being a great workhorse for hay sampling.

Understanding what is in my client’s forage is very helpful for making feeding decisions and balancing the diet right. While many of my clients cannot have a hay test, when we can I still get a thrill from having accurate information.

Gosh, forage science is cool.

Hey horse owners! Take a look at this and participate in a survey to help advance some science 😊

Attention all horse owners‼️ 🐴

Researchers from Texas A&M, UC Davis, Rutgers, CSU (Dr. Fedorka), and Cavalor are conducting a nationwide survey on the prevalence and management of equine metabolic disease, and they need your input!

If you own horses, your experience matters. This survey will help advance research, improve management strategies, and support horse health across the industry.

My lovely client Buck reminding us why he’s getting a grazing muzzle! (Don’t worry, his is on the way!)

Grazing muzzles are tools for FREEDOM for horses, as they still allow for turnout with friends and good movement while restricting the intake of sugary spring grass. They can reduce pasture intake by about 30% (or more with smaller holes) which is very helpful with overweight horses or those with metabolic concerns.

Do you use a grazing muzzle for your horse?
