Amblyopia in children and adults
Newborn infants are able to see, but as they use their eyes during the first months of life, their vision improves. During early childhood years, their visual system changes quickly and their sight continues to develop.

In order to have normal vision, it is important that both eyes develop equal vision. If a child has amblyopia and cannot use his or her eyes normally, vision does not develop properly and may even decrease. After the first nine years of life, the visual system is normally fully developed and usually cannot be changed.

Eyes may change somewhat during pregnancy. Vision changes tend to be minor, but if vision becomes very blurry, contact your doctor right away to rule out high blood pressure or pregnancy-related diabetes. See your Eye M.D. to treat dry eye.

What are floaters?
Floaters are little "cobwebs" or specks that float about in your field of vision. They are small, dark, shadowy shapes that can look like spots, thread-like strands, or squiggly lines. They move as your eyes move and seem to dart away when you try to look at them directly. They do not follow your eye movements precisely, and usually drift when your eyes stop moving.

Most people have floaters and learn to ignore them; they are usually not noticed until they become numerous or more prominent. Floaters can become apparent when looking at something bright, such as white paper or a blue sky.

Prevent Blindness America has declared June as Cataract Awareness Month.
Cataract generally does not cause pain, redness or tears. However, these changes in your vision may be signs of cataract:
Blurred vision, double vision, ghost images, the sense of a "film" over the eyes.
Lights seem too dim for reading or close-up work, or you are "dazzled" by strong light.
Changing eyeglass prescriptions often. The change may not seem to help your vision.

Have a comprehensive dilated eye exam.
You might think your vision is fine or that your eyes are healthy, but visiting your eye care professional for a comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to really be sure. When it comes to common vision problems, some people don’t realize they could see better with glasses or contact lenses. In addition, many common eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration often have no warning signs. A dilated eye exam is the only way to detect these diseases in their early stages

Look Away From the Computer for Good Eye Health
Staring at a computer screen can cause:

Eyestrain
Blurry vision
Difficulty focusing at a distance
Dry eyes
Headaches
Neck, back, and shoulder pain
Protect your eye health by taking the following steps:

Make sure your glasses or contact lens prescription is up-to-date and adequate for computer use.
Some people may need glasses to help with contrast, glare, and eye strain when using a computer.
Position your computer so that your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. This allows you to look slightly down at the screen.
Try to avoid glare on your computer from windows and lights. Use an anti-glare screen if needed.
Choose a comfortable, supportive chair. Position it so that your feet are flat on the floor.
If your eyes are dry, blink more.
Every 20 minutes, rest your eyes by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. At least every two hours, get up and take a 15-minute break.
