January 24th is National Compliment Day!

TIP: Instead of complimenting achievements, identify and name the personality traits that led to achieving a goal.

EXAMPLES: Instead of “Great job getting an A on your test!” or “Way to go on closing that sale!” try “I’m so proud of your resourcefulness and persistence!” or “Your creativity and adaptability is incredible!”

WHY? Achievements are driven by external measures that are always changing and can lead to disappointment, but our internal qualities are consistently reliable and taking ownership over them is empowering!

First book recommendation of 2025: "Social Justice for the Sensitive Soul: How to Change the World in Quiet Ways" by Dorcas Cheng-Tozun

For those of us who are not built to be the stereotypical activist with raised voices and fists marching through the streets, we need to find our own way of contributing, and we need to believe and trust that our ways are just as impactful. If you recognize that you fall along the spectrum including highly sensitive people, empaths, and introverts, this book will make you feel seen and valued in your contributions, and it may even give you some ideas for ways to contribute to movements that still honor your authentic self. Plus, there are some insightful descriptions and facts that offer a new perspective on the power of HSPs throughout history!

2025 is likely to be a year that requires immense hope, patience, and stamina.

I’ll be taking an intentional break from posting on social media for the remainder of 2024 as I try to rejuvenate for the anticipated emotional demands of the year ahead.
