With heavy hearts, we are sharing that our dear friend and colleague, Alyson (Aly) Johnson passed away yesterday. She was tragically hit by a truck while out for a run on vacation with her family. Aly served on the CODHA Board of Directors for several years, in multiple capacities, including Western Slope Director and Delegate to ADHA.

She was married to Chad, and has an 18 yr old son, Kellen, who were her whole world. She was passionate about her community and running. Aly embodied pure joy and lit up every room she entered. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

We will share more information about memorial services and ways to honor Aly in the coming weeks.

CODA accredited dental hygiene programs require 2,932 hours of education to be appropriately and safely trained before applying to be a registered dental hygienist. Some states have passed laws to allow dental assistants to scale with as few as 60-90 hours of education. As registered and licensed practitioners who completed these required hours, we find the idea of lowering these standards of education to be unsafe and a risk to our patients. Our merchandise, informational handouts, etc. are geared toward highlighting the work it requires to ensure safety and standards throughout our profession. Proceeds from this campaign will go towards legislative and advocacy efforts in Colorado to help educate our family, friends, and patients about the education and clinical standards for their dental hygienists!
