Years ago, Nicole saw personally how critical donated blood was in helping her mother-in-law fight cancer. That experience changed her perspective — and set her on a mission to make a difference for others.

“I started coordinating blood drives at work because I know how much they mean,” Nicole says. “Seeing the impact of donated blood during such a hard time showed me how lifesaving it really is.”

Inducted into the National Blood Donation Hall of Fame in 2023, Scott remains a passionate advocate for Vitalant’s mission. He continues to donate blood regularly, volunteer his time, and he is active with the national bone marrow registry. Scott also serves on Vitalant’s Community Leadership Council, where he continues to raise awareness about the lifesaving impact of blood donation.
Scott wants everyone to know every donation they make has the potential to help two or more people.

Every number tells a story. Presley’s story happens to be one in a billion.

At just 9 years old, Presley is living with one of the rarest genetic disorders in the world: a KNCA1 gene deletion. Her journey has included countless surgeries, hospital stays, and a battle with severe anemia that required five O-negative blood transfusions.

Because of generous donors and organizations like Vitalant, Presley is now in 4th grade, learning to walk, communicate, and discover the world in her own way. Her mom calls her “one in a billion,” and Presley’s resilience proves just that.

Today is World Trauma Day, and we want to highlight the lifesaving work hospitals, and first responders do every day to help those who are critically injured, including those involved in emerging prehospital transfusion programs like the one with Arvada Fire and Lutheran Hospital. These programs are helping save even more lives before patients arrive at the ER.
