Holiday travel and sickness generally go hand in hand. Getting your flu shot can keep you and others healthy during this season. Other ways to stop germs from spreading are: washing hands more often (don't forget to moisturize with Vaseline or aquaphor after) and wearing masks in crowded areas like planes and airports. Have a happy and healthy holiday season!

A new CDC report reveals that pediatric flu deaths in the 2024-’25 season tied a record high. A newly reported death from last season brings the 2024-’25 total to 288, which is higher than any other regular flu season since tracking started in 2004. Last season’s pediatric deaths include at least 21 children who had a rare but severe neurological complication from the flu.

The first child death has also been reported for the current season. The death occurred in late November and was associated with influenza A, according to the CDC report. Read more in AAP News: https://bit.ly/494O6i5

President Trump’s call for a “vaccine schedule review” isn’t transparency, it’s political control dressed up as science at the expense of children’s lives.

Let’s be clear: the childhood vaccine schedule is already reviewed constantly by independent scientists, epidemiologists, and regulators. Every vaccine on it has years—often decades—of real-world data behind it. Nothing about this process was broken. Nothing about it needed a political intervention.

So why do this?

Because creating a “review” suggests a problem where none exists. It implies the schedule is excessive, unsafe, or unscientific, which is a narrative pushed for years by activists who reject the overwhelming medical consensus on vaccine safety.

When you put political appointees in charge of evaluating decades of evidence, you’re not improving science. You’re overriding it.

This move does three dangerous things:

1️⃣ It replaces experts with ideologues.
The people now steering this review include individuals who have built careers on spreading vaccine disinformation. That’s not oversight. It’s sabotage.

2️⃣ It destabilizes a schedule responsible for eliminating or controlling polio, measles, Hib epiglottitis, congenital rubella, pneumococcal meningitis, and childhood liver cancer from hepatitis B.

These weren’t theoretical wins, they saved millions of children!

3️⃣ It signals that long-standing, evidence-based recommendations can be undone by political whim rather than scientific discovery.

That’s how preventable diseases return.

This isn’t about transparency. Or safety. Or “common sense.”

It’s about dismantling trust in vaccines by pretending the most rigorously studied medical interventions on Earth suddenly need a political audit.

Children cannot advocate for themselves. Parents rely on honest science, not manufactured doubt.

We should never gamble with the health of an entire generation to score political points.
