Fratres Dei is a queer-owned interspiritual/interfaith private practice offering in-person, virtual, and outdoor spiritual direction, somatic spiritual advising, ecstatic dance, and SD supervision. Fratres Dei provides a platform upon which people of all spiritual traditions and backgrounds may pursue spiritual growth in a dogma-free space. Fratres Dei offers spiritual direction, somatic spiritual

advising, embodied spirituality workshops, ecstatic dance, and spiritual direction supervision. Spiritual direction is the practice of partnering with another to navigate one's spiritual journey or relationship with the sacred. Through counseling-style interaction, directors create a space within which directees may openly, honestly, and safely explore, process, and deepen all parts of their personal spiritual inclinations and longings. Founder, certified spiritual director, and certified spiritual direction supervisor Rachel A. Parsons, MA, has had extensive theological training and meets with individuals from all spiritual backgrounds, including those who do not identify with an established tradition. As a spiritual director, she specializes in body-mind integration, head-heart integration, spiritual or religious transition / deconstruction, spiritual or religious trauma, LGBTQIA+ spirituality (affirming), nonreligious spiritual growth, discernment, intimacy with the sacred, meditation (body and imagination-based), ecstatic dance (see more below), faith crisis, spiritual caregiver / occupational burnout, interfaith relationships, general spiritual growth and exploration, issues of anger with the divine / misotheism, ecospirituality, and spiritual direction supervision. A lifelong student of embodied spirituality, Rachel developed the practice of Body Discernment, a synthesis of somatic therapeutic practices designed to integrate the body into spiritual growth. Rachel takes your comfort very seriously. She creates a hospitable space to encourage authentic reflection, offers video chat and telephone sessions, and is happy to host outdoor sessions that involve short walks upon request. I often tell my spiritual advising clients that the hallmark of a healthy spiritual path is one that inspires genuine joy, sustainable peace, and compassionate action. Sometimes, we can think of peace as strictly sitting perfectly still, cross-legged on a mountain sipping green iced tea. While that can be an expression of inner peace, I think giving equal space to the more fiery emotions is a crucial piece of the puzzle. I believe peace to be the ability to offer hospitality to every aspect of human nature without spiraling out of control in any direction—be it toxic positivity or abusive anger. This definition provides freedom from labeling any emotion as “good” or “bad.” There is freedom to receive each emotion as part of the fabric of being alive with a brain. There is freedom to allow each emotion to do its job—to communicate internally your experience of being a person.

The holidays can be one of the hardest times for those of us with religious trauma. As much as exclusionary faith traditions might say otherwise, you are precious, you are more than enough, we are lucky to have you, and you’re not alone. One of the worst lingering effects of religious trauma isn’t just the ongoing actions of others but the messaging that exists within your own mind. Even when logically you don’t believe the dogma of your upbringing, it can be hard to free yourself from it on a heart level. Spirituality coaches are trained to support you with exactly that. Figure out what you truly believe and step into a life centered on your truth.

Unique Experiences for the Spiritually Curious

Fratres Dei Spiritual Direction and Ministries is an open invitation to cultivate spiritual curiosity. The ministries of Fratres Dei have been designed by founder Rachel A. Parsons, MA, to provide a platform upon which people of all spiritual backgrounds may pursue spiritual wellbeing and seek intimacy with the divine. In Latin “Fratres Dei” means “siblings of God,” and Rachel’s mission is to partner with others to explore what it means to be the brothers, sisters, and siblings of the Divine. It is her firm conviction that the joy of spiritual exploration is the vitalization of the world, and she is delighted to create opportunities for others to do so through spiritual direction, interfaith ecstatic dance, and embodied theology workshops.

Spiritual direction is the millennia-old practice of partnering with another in order to navigate one’s spiritual journey or relationship with the divine. Spiritual directors help the religiously or spiritually curious uncover and unpack the people they were created to be. Through counseling-style interaction, directors create a space within which directees may openly, honestly, and safely explore, process, and deepen all parts of their personal spiritual and longings. Each session is deeply personalized. Rachel has received extensive theological training and is comfortable working with individuals of all spiritual backgrounds, including those who do not identify with an establish tradition.
