Hoping everyone out there had a good summer!

We are so lucky that our summers feel so much longer here in Colorado. Wishing you lots of sunshine to warm your soul today and everyday.

Please always know you can reach out if it's been harder than usual to look on the bright side. It's normal, and therapy can help with balancing positive and "negative" thoughts and feelings.

Life's hard - hang in there - help is available.

College is your chance to hit the reset button—to figure out who you want to become while exploring what genuinely excites you. You'll meet people from completely different backgrounds who will challenge your thinking in the best possible way and maybe become lifelong friends.

Here's the beautiful thing: it's totally okay to not have it all figured out. Try that random club that sounds interesting, switch majors if your heart pulls you elsewhere, or dive into a hobby you've always been curious about. These aren't detours—they're how you discover what makes you come alive.

And let's be real—some days will be tough. You might feel overwhelmed, homesick, or unsure if you're on the right path. That's completely normal and part of growing up. The key is remembering you're not alone in this. Whether it's a counselor, professor, or that friend from your dorm, people genuinely want to see you succeed. Don't hesitate to reach out when you need support—it's actually one of the most mature things you can do.

Your college experience will be uniquely yours, filled with unexpected moments that shape who you're becoming. Trust the process and be kind to yourself along the way.

Social media can truly stop you in your tracks and rock you to your core...

While it can be a wonderful way to share, the negative has a way of creeping in. It could be a friend who is distancing and spending more time with others (and less and less with you), or maybe a family member who shares posts of her growing family (and you are dealing with infertility or a tough relationship), or maybe someone who has started a business (while you've been struggling to get one of your own going), and of course, filters and lighting can bring out all sorts of our insecurities - understandably!

These are all things that regular mental health maintenance can help and address. Have you been thinking about counseling for yourself? You are welcome here!

At Peek Counseling, I work with young adults, fellow counselors and teens to help you find your shine again (and also simply maintain your mental health) - which we all know is so essential, especially in these days and times.

Reach out if you'd like to explore a free initial consultation.

It's easy to let social media highlights trick your mind into comparing yourself to others....

This is your reminder that this is YOUR life and there is no set standard on what it should look like.

Enjoy yourself, smile, follow your passions and your heart. You'll always end up right where you're meant to be.

And if it's been tough to muster a smile lately, my door is always open.

🌱 Avoiding Toxic People for Better Mental Health 🌱

Signs of Toxic People:

➡️ Constant Negativity: They consistently bring down your mood and outlook on life.
➡️ Manipulative Behavior: They try to control or manipulate situations for their gain.
➡️ Lack of Support: They don’t celebrate your successes or offer support in tough times.
➡️ Disrespectful Dynamics: They dismiss your feelings or criticize you harshly.

Tips to Avoid Toxic People:

🌈 Set Boundaries: Clearly define what behaviors you will not tolerate and communicate them.
🌈 Limit Interaction: Gradually reduce the time you spend with toxic individuals to protect your energy.
🌈 Surround Yourself with Positivity: Seek out relationships that uplift and inspire you.
🌈 Trust Your Instincts: If someone makes you feel bad about yourself, it’s okay to step back.
🌈 Practice Self-Care: Focus on activities that nurture your well-being and help you recharge.

Remember, it’s perfectly okay to prioritize your mental health by surrounding yourself with positive influences.

At Peek Counseling, I’m here to help you navigate these relationships! You deserve connections that bring joy and support! 🌈❤️

If today's been tough... remember to tune into that voice inside!

Self-belief is crucial in navigating life's challenges. It’s okay to have doubts, but don’t let them hold you back. Celebrate your strengths and embrace your unique journey. (You'll look back one day and be glad you did)

And while you're on this path, don’t forget to honor your mental health. 🧠💖 Take breaks when needed, practice self-care, and reach out for support if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

You are not alone, and it's perfectly okay to seek help. My door is always open!

Setting boundaries is essential, especially when you are navigating complex relationships and responsibilities... it's a lot!

It’s okay to say no and prioritize your own needs without feeling guilty. Period!

Think of boundaries as a way to protect your energy and mental health; they help define what you’re comfortable with and what you’re not.

Whether it’s limiting your availability for social events or communicating your needs clearly to friends and family, establishing boundaries fosters healthier relationships. Remember, it’s not about pushing people away but rather creating a space where you can thrive.

Taking the time to define and enforce your boundaries is a gift to yourself and those around you. Counseling can help.

Reach out if this resonates with you!
