My Therapeutic Style: At the beginning of therapy, I spend time getting to know who you are and how the problem that brought you to therapy got to the point where you felt that you needed to seek out help. I participate and engage in a dialogue with you, rather than just ask an hour long string of questions. I believe that you should come away with concrete information that may help you understand and apply new information in away that increases satisfaction with yourself, and in your relationships with others. I have a degree in behavioral science. This gives me an in depth knowledge of Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work. I am grateful for this coursework, as it helps me see clients, and their problems, from many different angles. When discussing a client's situation, I take into account their ethnic, racial, economic, religious, cultural background, gender, sexual orientation, and class differences, to understand how these all combine to make up who you are; and how they influence you in ways that got you into your present situation. Obtaining a masters degree in social work (MSW) was a capstone on the foundation laid by my behavioral science undergraduate studies. I am a proponent of a cognitive/behavioral style of therapy; many times exploring the meanings made of the events of your life, and how those meanings may have affected your mindset. To break it down further, I make use of solution focused therapies; drawing on the times in your life that things were going well, and how to incorporate those skills in your present situation.
