Thank you for sharing your story Viv!
Meet Viv Duval, one of our brave and inspiring trauma survivors, a Project Manager at Denver Health and a guest speaker at our upcoming Trauma Survivors Fun Run on May 10! She shared more about her journey and and a few words of encouragement with us:
💪 How has your experience as a trauma survivor shaped you? "Surviving gun violence and caregiving of my shot and wounded partner moved me from the receiving end of tragic headlines to feeling compelled to join a team supporting those responding and helping in some way."
💙 What inspired you to work at Denver Health? "Denver Health’s clinicians, first responders and support teams helped us on our worst day with unwavering skill, speed and dignity. Joining the hospital’s mission felt like the most authentic way to pay that care forward, turning gratitude into improved health care quality for the community that embraced me when I needed it most."
🗣 How do you help spread awareness around trauma? "Through giving, I’ve found healing. I pair volunteer work with youth in foster care with everyday advocacy — sharing resources such as victim advocate networks so family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and policymakers see trauma‑informed care and the important work being done."
Viv can't wait to meet everyone at the Trauma Survivors Fun Run and encourages us to remember that self-compassion and community are the keys to resilience!
