The devising process involved so many pieces of creation that never make it into the final show but help flesh out story and character. Here is a sonett we wrote while creating this month's show.

Le Renard

Today I spied a woman, exotic and fair.

She sailed into Paris like an ocean breeze.

She had a look of trying to escape her cares,

Yet moved through the streets with a kind of earthly ease.

Drawn like moth to flame I made my approach.

I told her she was beautiful and more.

We’d make a team I said, with me as coach,

And how I’d make her quite a classy w***e.

Warily she stared and heard my words.

I could see it would be hard to earn her trust.

I urged her, “Do not fear or be disturbed!

With me it will be ‘Reach the stars or bust!’

At any cost I’ll have her ‘neath my wing.

It’s not the ‘if’ but ‘how’ that is the thing.

What is devised theater? It's very fancy.... And we are one of the only theaters in Denver doing it!

Do your research, don’t obsess over plot and set aside time early on to explore everyone’s personal objectives for making the piece
