👏 Congratulations to Maria Talamantes, RN, on receiving the Sepsis Lifesaver Award! She was recognized for her sharp clinical instincts and swift action that helped save a patient’s life. 👏

While preparing a patient for surgery in Pre-Op, Maria noticed subtle but concerning changes in vital signs. She immediately called a Sepsis Alert, mobilizing the care team to initiate the sepsis bundle. Thanks to her assessment skills and decisive response, the patient stabilized, successfully underwent surgery, and was later discharged to inpatient rehab. Maria’s story is a powerful example of the culture of excellence and vigilance that defines care at HCA HealthONE Rose — especially in critical moments.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the arms or legs. It’s easy to mistake PAD for other conditions like hip arthritis or spinal stenosis, which means often goes undiagnosed. Many people with PAD don’t experience symptoms at all. That’s why awareness of risk factors – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking – is crucial for screening.

Understanding the early warning signs is the first step toward timely intervention and better quality of life. In most cases, lifestyle changes, exercise and medications are enough to slow the progression or even reverse the symptoms of PAD, so talk to your doctor if you think you may be at risk. When Stephanie needed a kidney transplant, her husband Ryan turned out to be a perfect match. He didn’t hesitate—he donated his kidney and gave her the gift of life. Stephanie received her transplant at HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, where the care and compassion she experienced left a lasting impression. So much so, that when she saw a job opening, she didn’t think twice—she applied. Today, Stephanie is part of the finance team at the very hospital that helped her heal.

This past weekend, 90 colleagues and friends came together to participate in the Donor Alliance Donor Dash 5K in honor of patients like Stephanie. This annual run/walk honors organ and tissue donors, celebrates transplant recipients, and recognizes those still waiting for a life-saving transplant.
