• Chronic cough
• Symptoms worse after meals or lying down

🔹 Hiatal Hernia
Happens when part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm.

Common Symptoms
• Chest pressure or discomfort

• Passing black stool
• Can trigger or worsen reflux symptoms
• Backward flow of food or liquid - regurgitation

Travel Tips To Help Ease Stomach Discomfort

When travel meets up with frequent stomach discomfort it’s no fun for the traveler. If you're planning a trip abroad, here are some tips for you.

If you frequently notice symptoms like stomach sensitivity, bloating, or something like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), it helps to take precautions ahead of planned travel. Here are some practical ways you can plan ahead so your trip can go as smooth as possible.

1. Plan to eat safe foods—especially on travel days

Airports and road trip food can take your gut off course. Reach for safer options like simple carbs, lean proteins and low-fat options. Try to avoid tempting trigger foods. This includes fried foods and heavy dairy.

2. Stay hydrated – this can help ease constipation and bloating

• Sip water consistently in small amounts
• Be aware that alcohol and caffeine may trigger abdominal symptoms

3. Time your meals with intention
Have easy foods on hand so you can eat small amounts and avoid long periods without any food. If you must eat later than planned, opt for smaller lighter meals.

Know when to see your doctor
If you’re planning to travel but have ongoing addominal discomfort, maybe it’s time for a checkup. Your doctor can evaluate you for things like Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, food intolerances or IBS, before you hit the road or airways.

Here’s the scoop on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and how it affects the body.

Turns out that people diagnosed with IBD may also experience inflammation in their joints or breakouts on their skin. It can also affect bones, eyes, liver, and kidneys, according to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.

When IBD affects other areas of the body besides the gut, this is known as extraintestinal manifestation.

What do these foods have in common?

🥬 Kimchi
🥣 Yogurt
🥬 Sauerkraut
🍜 Miso soup

They’re all fermented foods — and that’s good news for your gut.

Fermentation helps create beneficial bacteria that can support a healthy gut microbiome. These microbes play a role in digestion, help break down certain foods, and may support overall digestive balance.

You don’t need to overhaul your diet to benefit. Even small amounts of fermented foods added regularly can help introduce helpful bacteria to your gut.

💡 Tip: Try adding one fermented food to your meals this week — like yogurt at breakfast or a spoonful of kimchi or sauerkraut with lunch.
