Got hip pain with deep squats?
You’re not alone. Hip pain with squatting and “pinchy hips” are extremely common. Most are due to FAIS (femoroacetabular impingement syndrome), or a subtle impingement at the hip joint (check out our previous post).
Hip labral tears are also extremely common in athletes—even those without pain. In fact, up to 68% of athletes with no hip pain or stiffness have labral tears on imaging 👀
And those Cam lesions (bony outgrowth on the thigh bone) you may have heard about? Many are just normal anatomical variations from growth during our teenage years playing sports or running - not a guaranteed problem.
✅ The good news? Even painful hips with FAIS or labral tears respond really well to a focused plan that blends:
🔹 Hip mobility
🔹 Strength around the joint
🔹 Better movement control
Before assuming you need surgery or injections or have to stop deep squatting or running, make sure you’ve explored the right rehab path. Strong, stable hips can still squat deep and pain-free!
