A clinical study evaluated a topical blend of essential oils and their constituents against diclofenac cream to relieve musculoskeletal pain. The oil cream consisted of camphor, methyl salicylate, eucalyptus, nutmeg, and rosemary in coconut and mineral oil. Both groups applied their assigned creams twice daily to the painful areas. At the conclusion of the study, it was determined that the essential oil cream provided similar pain relief to diclofenac.

To mimic the blend utilized, combine 12 drops nutmeg, 11 drops wintergreen or birch, 9 drops rosemary, and 8 drops eucalyptus in a 10 mL roller bottle; fill the rest with a carrier oil (FCO with castor oil is a good option); and apply to the affected area twice daily.
